That says they are contracted for 2013, not 2014.

Seems to me replacing Sewell with Hallahan to be the obvious move if the kid is worthy. Noone needs to leave the club unless they ask for it. The chance of giving up a good mid to the opposition is not on. The midfield at Hawthorn is currently undergoing transition on account of the fact that our premier mids are not getting any younger. Clarko will try all combinations before any Kennedyesk departures. The timing of Kennedy leaving, where we had a dearth of gun middies in their mid 20s is no longer apparent at Hawthorn. If Sewelly looks for an opportunity elsewhere, good luck to him but I doubt if there would be any suitors out there given his age and his attributes.
Yes . . .How so ? article written in Oct 2012.
FIVE youngsters have committed to the Hawks, signing contract extensions ahead of the first list lodgment date on 31 October.
Kyle Cheney, Taylor Duryea, Mitch Hallahan, Will Langford and Angus Litherland have all agreed to terms and will represent Hawthorn in season 2013.
Yes . . .
Where does it say they signed 2 year deals? Just says they have signed on for 2013 which is this year . . .
Thanks for the linkI never said they signed a 2 year deal. The original poster said "IF" Hallahan is out of contract. I'ts not IF he is! I was just showing his the press statement.
Not sure where you're trying to go with this.
Unless we convince him to retire what other option do we have?Ok lets just say hypothetically speaking, at the end of this year Sewell is told that Hallahan has surpassed him in the pecking order of our slow mids for 2014, Mitchell Hodge Lewis Hallahan. Sewell is then stranded in the twos as a depth player. He signed a new contract for 3 years in which he was runner up in the B &F in 2012, he'd most likely be somewhere near the 450 k mark maybe more. So we're all content to have 450 k of our salary cap that's already stretched to be sitting in the twos. No matter the return for Sewell in a tarde, the money that is freed up can be used to entice young gun midfielders, used on a free agent ie an outside line breaking mid, used to fix holes etc....its absurd.
If Hallahan is out of contract then we might lose him, and it seems that he is!
Unless we convince him to retire what other option do we have?
Yeah, that's what worries me tooYou would think other clubs have noticed his form at Box Hill and that he isnt getting senior game time.
I'm sure he wants to play senior football, Hypothetically still being behind Sewell next year may just force his hand, we're every chance to lose him depending the interest.
Just noticed Litherland was also in that list........oh dear.

I was wrapped when Sewell re-signed, but staggered at the length of the contract tbhour list is not getting any younger and you will NEVER get gold for potato's ....

Just another 31 posession 3 goal game on the weekend, hard not to take notice.
I was absolutely stunned when we signed sewell on for another 3 years, not only stunned, but angered. I think the writing was on the wall last year, him being the sort of player he is, a 1-2 year deal at most would've sufficed.
The only thing i can think of which might be holding Hallahan back, is he may struggle to cover the ground and run both ways...which all midfielders need to be able to do these days, whether you're in and under or outside.
I must admit I really know SFA about LitherlandI think Mitch knows where he stands this year......he's last in line. I'm more concerned for next year, he will have another pre season under his belt, he will be fitter and stronger, I have no doubt he will be after serious game time next year, if we can't offer it or guarantee it......he will be on his bike. Ditto with Litherland. I have a really bad feeling about him.
Like what Peter Schwab aka HBD said, you can't trade potatoes for gold. In other words to trade someone that need to have trade value. Ellis has none as his body is rooted and Essendon, who are our trading bitches, already have Gumbleton on their list.NO.... if anyone............Ellis!
