If you'll forgive the intrusion..

Obviously I haven't been following Hawthorn closely on a week-to-week basis, so what is a basic, succinct synopsis of what has gone wrong with his game this year?

I mean, the guy was almost best on ground for you in a Grand Final just last year, so to see the possibility of him being traded even being discussed, I must admit, shocks me as an outsider.

id give up our first pick and Sewell to gws to get there compo pick, Sewell has been an underrated player for the hawks. although I would hate to see him leave. it's now the time to make a move on him while he has got two to three years of good footy ahead of him. we need to start blooding some new kids in that area and I wouldn't get rid of Lewis Mitch or hodge

The game is getting faster and our mids aren't. Having said that September football is a different game and maybe Sewell will get himself up and going by then. Right now he is just a little off form and when you are off form at his age people ask these sorts of questions.

Sewell's efficiency by foot statistics are shocking. Whilst his ball winning abilities are undoubted, his inability to make a concise and accurate decision has always been costly. He has done well to last as long as he has given his limitations. These players eventually are found out. Regrettably we held on to him for too long. We will receive heck all for him now imo.

Loyalty goes both ways

Football is a business. Ultimately, it was a wrong business decision keeping Sewell and offering him such an extensive contract. I'm glad his tenure at the HFC is coming to an end at least. Probably the last player to wear brown and gold who cannot kick at all.

The length of contract I was surprised at too, but to say your glad his tenure is coming to an end is nearly as stupid and embarrassing as writing your username after EVERY single post you make!

Just glad that he is finally found out. He provides little offensively due to his inability to execute the fundamentals of the game, i.e. kicking. He will be remembered as a serviceable player for the Hawthorn Football Club, who gave his all for the jumper whilst the club was in a redevelopment phase. Hawthorn has outgrown Sewell. Nevertheless he has been clever in ensuring that life after football as a "media commentator" is an option for him. Sewell will not feature in finals calculations in my opinion. The right calls are being made and he should be moved on with all speed and urgency.

Finally found out? Easily our best player on the toughest stage, when other players went to water. Shit post is shit.

Football is more than a business, a team is more than an assets sheet added up to a tally. Show me a business that doesn't value its people, and I'll show you a business that is failing

I love you Eldo.

And what will you say if Sewelly dominates in the Grand Final and helps win our 11th premiership.

'Sorry but I am a faaarkwit who does not understand heart and courage and determination'

Will you sign your name to it as well?

Just stating my opinion on Sewell. This is what the forum is all about. I have similar views on Ellis not being up to scratch also. Sewell can gain possessions aplenty in any game. As I mentioned he is more than capable at wining his own. However he is a terrible user. He lacks poise and his efficiency by foot is not up to the standard of today's AFL footy. I really do hope that he can turn it around as you mentioned, however I just don't think he has the knowhow. What makes matters worse is that Sewell is a dumb footballer. Pay careful attention whenever he has the ball in hand, he is always jittery before disposing, his thought processes are not instant enough for this level. The majority on this board love Sewell and it makes sense to admire a player that gives it his all... Tim Clarke gave his all also...

Winning the ball is only half the battle. The glory snaps deep in the last quarter spoke volumes.

Football is a business and Hawthorn erred in offering Sewell such a lengthy contract. Sewell should be omitted again after a fortunate reprieve. The Hawks have outgrown Sewell finally. It is pleasing that the club is realising this also.

we have traded very well in the last 4 years, however it was a horrible mistake in trading Kennedy in 2009 (and i was adamant re this in 2009), and keeping Ellis and Sewell ahead of him instead.

In any case i would not completely dismiss Sewell yet, and hopefully we can get 20-25 good games out of him before his tenure is up, esp. noting he has another 2 years after this one left on his contract

Have you read 'The Hard Way'

Tell me whether skill created our culture?

No it was heart, sacrifice and character.

Sewell has character and he'll play a big part in our 11th Premiership, I feel it ...

Times have changed. Kicking has become a key component along with hardness etc etc. Hawthorn will not pick up a Sewell like player ever again. He is a dying breed.

if u note one annoying thing about Sewell is when he finds the ball in traffic his first instinct is to turn backwards into traffic and then lay a handball to someone under pressure....rather than look forward for the decisive disposal out of congestion. That being said there are other poor users by foot, namely Puopolo and Shiels, do we cut more slack for them?...there disposal by foot and goal shooting is average also. I don't think it is correct in isolating Sewell as the last remaining bad kick
