He was also on track to get 50+ goals in two of those seasons in a bottom 4 team with bottom 2-4 supply.

Barrass is at the backend of his prime and may get back to his best if he can continue to manage himself and playing in a good side, but he’s no longer in the middle of his prime. Those young guys I mentioned could explode next year and some had big years this year, whilst Barrass did not and could slide more, who knows. It’s a guessing game considering his back and issues, hence why his worth is also less.

Current ability yes but also irrelevant to 2025 which is a future season.

Read my posts properly. I said we should assume a finish around the same as the competition is super tight (2 wins between 3rd and 10th last year) and each team is a few key injuries/luck away from rising or falling.

Hence the pick 12 and 14 in my initial post, which got subsumed with having to explain why it is clearly not a fact (and is actually very unlikely) that either pick blows out to 20, and an almost statistical impossibility that both do.

Hawthorn opening a premiership window yes but that doesn’t make his value more, you don’t overpay for that, given it isn’t guaranteed Hawthorn will next year, it could be 2 years. Who knows. No matter what I think.

Barrass is fairly comfortably in your top 5 though, which was the original comment. He'd be your best defender, and I'd put him in your top 3 overall behind Day and Moore.

You do realise all of this was Hawthorn and Barrass' doing, right? It works for us in that Barrass won't be around when we're next contending but we're not the ones driving this.


FWIW, I expect a trade to be one of the following:

Barrass + F2 for F1 + F1
Barrass + F3 for F1 + F2 + F2
Barrass for F1 + F2

I'd love the two firsts but it seems like F1 + F2 are the core of the trade. It's providing an F3 going back was too much so the trades above are subtle variations favourable to us without going overboard. Given the Hawks' shenanigans, I hope the last option is off the table. If that means Barrass returns to us next season, so be it.

Anyone who thinks Barrass is better than Sicily belongs in a mental asylum.

Newcombe was probably the best finals player this season over the first two weeks and would’ve been had he played more (top 5 with less games) was also arguably the form midfielder for 2 months at the end of the season. He is also getting better, Barrass isn’t.
