So not the point, so many eagles fans here pretending Barras was a happy eagle and the hawks corrupted him.
Talk about twisting the truth!
I’d be happy for the Hawks to provided a 1st and 2nd round pick for Barrass.
Where we are at in our rebuild, we can afford to risk two first Round picks. Especially with TAS coming to the draft soon.
You could also be sitting on pick one (doubtful admittedly), wasn't that long ago that the Hawks were a bottom four team, perhaps this season was a flash in the pan. Both picks will be close to 20 by the tome they are matched, it's a fair price for a top 10 key defender in the comp.
Barrass was talking to Western Bulldogs. Your mob got wind of it and moved in.Courting

How does the point system change the pick? Not being facetious. I thought all it did was reduce the value of 2nd and 3rd round picks as FS/Academy compo.
Have I missed something?

Your club courted a bloke on a 3 year contract for months and are offering a turd burger to us for his services.
Barrass was talking to Western Bulldogs. Your mob got wind of it and moved in.
So yes, Hawthorn were indeed 'courting' him.
So we should assume best case scenario during a rebuild in a draft that isn't as strong as the current one and which will be heavily compromised, just to appease the Vic Media? Get a grip man.You could also be sitting on pick one (doubtful admittedly), wasn't that long ago that the Hawks were a bottom four team, perhaps this season was a flash in the pan.
Everyone seems to forget that if you happen to snag a F1 and F2 for Barrass it will help if you're after Warner next offseason, not withstanding what the trade for Baker ends up becoming.
If you didn't understand what Barrass was worth to West Coast before courting him for 6 months, that's on you chief.A 'turd burger' - is that serious?
We offered pick 14 in a strong draft (and a decent pick upgrade) for a 29 year old defender with no personal accolades (unless you count a B&F in a 2 win team).
Find me ANY 29+ year old that has been traded for a top 15 pick in the last 20 years?
A pick that high for someone of that age is a very good offer. The last 29 year old traded was Brodie Grundy - a multiple AA ruckman that would obviously improve Sydney massively - he was traded for an end of 2nd round pick. The previous 29 year old traded was Tom Mitchell (a Brownlow, MVP, AA and B&F winner) who helped Collingwood win a flag and he was traded for some nothing picks in the 40's and an average kid that couldn't get a game (and has since been delisted).
Players of that age never fetch a premium (just like when Hawthorn traded Jordan Lewis or Sam Mitchell or Grant Birchall or Jack Gunston or anyone from any team in that 29+ bracket). A first round pick and extras is a great offer.
What about players similar to Barass that have bene traded over the years - Brian Lake is the most similar example (Lake was much better and a multiple AA). He was traded for a pick swap in the 20's. The next most similar is probably Aliir Aliir - except he was 26 at the time. He was traded for a 2nd rounder.
So, of everyone of that age and ilk are traded for much less than Hawthorn offered, what does a pick in the teens usually get you?
Well - I've looked and in the last 8 years, 3 players have been traded for a sole pick in the teens. Those three are:
a 23 year old Tom Mitchell - before he went on to immediately win AA's, B&F's, MVP's, etc.
a 23 year old Charlie Cameron - before he went on to win AA's, a flag, etc.
and a 24 year old Jordan Dawson - before he went on to immediately win AA's, B&F's, etc.
and you're describing a similar offer as a 'turd burger'. Laughable.
You don't wine and dine a contracted KPD then offer a late first rounder. Simple as that. And none of those deals are in anyway comparable.A 'turd burger' - is that serious?

Thanks. That's helpful. The draft change adding another element to upcoming trade frenzy

Cool story, pay up or he stays.Oh get a grip!
Barrass was shopping himself around to clubs, Sydney, Doggies and us.
Happy players don’t do this at all.
Eagles owe Barrass more than the Hawks, you have a current contract with him. Make your man happy trade or give him a pay rise.
Keep him as is and you risk him losing his love of the game at 29/30.
No way we are happy with that.I think eagles are happy with 2025r2 and Baker for Barass.
Accept 2025r1,r2 for barass, 2025r3.
Then trade 2025r1 for Baker.
Easy.
Cool story, pay up or he stays.
Do you accept one 1st, two 2nds for barass, r3.No way we are happy with that.
2 future firsts after they stuffed up the pick 14 + second deal
Great, that would genuinely be awesome. We keep an elite KPP and don't accept unders.Don’t deal with fact well! I am not fussed if he stays, keep him lmao!
Ok with thanks to Barrybran for clarifying the new pick weighing rule changes (which won't impact first round picks positions) - valuing both picks at 20 is a worst case scenario exaggeration - not a position to enter negotiations with. Both picks will be close to 20 by the tome they are matched, it's a fair price for a top 10 key defender in the comp.
To the Bulldogs. You just proved my point Barrass was shopping himself around.
At this point, after they blew up the deal, I personally wouldn't.Do you accept one 1st, two 2nds for barass, r3.
