You’re a bit slow hey!

We traded the 14 we were going to give you to Carlton for their F1 and F2!

We only paid one extra 3rd round pick in 2024.

You got to screw Carton ... well done and thanks :thumbsu: .

You still paid extra ... that was the point .... hope thats slow enough for you to comprehend.

Yep.
They have all bases covered now with Barrass. As good as their defence was last season, they could occasionally be exposed by the really big forwards. The 200cm guys. Frost had the 2 best years of his career the past couple. But Barrass is obviously an upgrade.
The interesting question for mine is how it changes things structurally for Hawthorn down back. I don't buy the playing all of Frost, Barrass and Battle talk. Even if they do try it early, it won't last long IMO. So even if Frost drops out, they are still playing an extra tall as compared to last season. Barrass, Battle, Sicily, Scrimshaw and Weddle as tallish options is a lot of height. Their mobility and run was such a strength, I'm interested to see how it works back their. Not saying it won't, I'm just curious. Sicily, Scrimshaw and Weddle still provide some run despite being capable talls(ish). All are at least reasonable, and a couple are outstanding ball users
Good problem to have. Both Weddle and Sicily are obviously pretty versatile but ideally I would think they'll still want Sicily back. It may put pressure on Gunston at the other end if one of Sicily or or Weddle end up forward
Weddle to a wing. Defensive structure the same.

It didn’t take me to long to give you the picture you were painting

Clearly, it changed for you.

Be thankful Hawthorn at least got your club a F1 & F2 with the 14 to save them total embarrassment in trading your pick 3
I was ok with f1+f2 days ago btw

I cbf going through the thread for hawks fans going on about giving unders, or going back to fight what youre saying, its not like I was the only one going full nuff here

They do have a 1st and a 2nd next year, just not theirs.

Most players will improve: Day, Dear, Watson, Newcombe, Weddle, Ginni, MacDonald, Massimo, Mackenzie and Ward are all under 25. Worpel and Moore are 25. Meek, Scrimshaw, Nash and Battle are 26.

Only 3 best 22 players are older than 27 (Amon, Impey and Sicily) and none are over 30.

Add Battle, Barass and Day to a team that was a post away from a prelim.

They won't drop off.

I agree they look like being at least the same level, but we've seen so many predictions of teams that won't drop off and then they do, or teams everyone thinks will kick on and improve and it just doesn't all go to plan the next year.

Also, form can't protect against a poor run with injury which is always a risk for any team.

Anyway, good on them for having a strong crack, Barras will be good for them I'm just not sure at his age I'd give a F1,2,3 for him even with a F4 coming back.

We used this years first (pick 14) and a 3rd and 4th round pick swap with the Eagles.

That’s all we gave up in the end to get Barrass, that’s a steal!

We effectively gave up pick 14 and F3 to bring in Barrass.

That’s a pretty good deal if you ask me. Great work by MM and team!

Battle and Barrass are huge additions to our team and bring a wealth of experience, this was a great off season. We now just need to recruit the beast from the east in the draft to make this 10/10

Improvement isn't linear, especially for multiple kids who might get ahead of themselves over the offseason. Add in more attention, a worse draw, new players gelling, plus potential injuries and there are no guarantees your future picks aren't bottom six.

I knew you were a freo supporter before looking.

If they had their time again would Wce trade pick 3 for 12, F1, F2, Owies?
Barrass for 14 + F3?
14 for Baker?

If broken down like that it feels like unders in all 3 trades. Barrass probably closest to fair value out of the 3.

I think where they messed up was the order in which they got the deals done.

My opinion ofc but get Barrass done early for fair value not overs, he is a club champion you can spin as looking after your own.
Then look at splitting 3 for maximum value and remove Baker from that deal.
Push the Baker deal to the wire and hand over what ever later teens pick you have at that point and maybe ask for something back, on the last day Richmond had alot going on and would have had more pressure.

Feels like Wce put pressure on themselves to get stuff done unnecessarily.

Be interesting to see if North split 2 and what they get for it. Might give some indication of how bad our 3 trade actually was.

It was the over commitment to Baker that screwed us, doubt it really mattered which way we did it tbh.

This. WCE messed up by the unwanted focus on Baker. Their problem was Freo were bidding for him too and so felt the pressure. If Barass was done earlier, they would have given 14 and called it a day but still kept 3.

I said the below in WCE board and was well received. If they still held 3 and put word out there were looking to trade down, they will be getting overs and could have been converting to 3 or 4 first rounders before end of draft night.

No, your problem was not being able to convince Tigers that Baker was not worth pick 14. Not even rusted on Tiger fans think that so not sure how the Tiger LM would think that.

Would have had a better deal if you took Hawks F1+F2 offer on table yday morning. Convinced Tigers to take the F1.

Keep the F2 and made deal for 3 for 12+14+Owies.

You end up with 3 for 12+14+Owies+F2

I know you guys are hoping for 2 F1's but will never happen after hawks seeing how the last few hrs has gone. So assume it is still F1+F2 and not anything less.

You end up with 3 for 12+F1+Owies+F2.

Once again reminding all that your problem was giving Tigers anything more than a F1 or late late teens for Baker and not being willing to walk away.

If you held on to 3 by itself, you would have had offers coming through right untill draft night and kept on trading up & build a war chest for Chad warner raid.

Suns converted pick 4 last yr to 6 first rounders since they were patient. Your Baker commitment made you impatient.

Good point clubs might rate the top end all pretty closely so the value between 3 and 12 isn't that big.

Probably the case and why us Hawks fans didn't feel the pick sliding from 11 to 14 was that big of an issue.

I think the order is important because if Wce secured pick 14 they wouldn't have lost leverage in the Baker situation and Freo wouldn't have got a sniff.

Without pick 14 the means to get the Baker deal done look like it evaporated until it was tied into the pick 3 deal.

If they had pick 14 leading into the weekend they could have shopped 3 to highest bidder which may have been a combination to future, higher and later picks. Example Essendon pick 9/F1, F2 + something else, could have been an option who knows. Essendon get in before Koko.
