It will be the Stonehenge of BigFooty. Future generations will ask why? How? What does it mean? What was the point? Did some higher life form from the future travel back in time to post it?

Nay, it was a garden variety BigFooty nuffy.
catempire I am sure the chief will have a virtual reality world of big footy by then!

Was perusing Paul's AFL tables stats, and noticed that Tom Hawkins has achieved a feat that Joel couldn't, nor any other Cat joining the list from 2007 onwards. He's notched three figures in the loss column, to go with his 244 wins and three draws. There's be a few Kangaroo players who would be hurtling towards three figures much more quickly in that aspect of their playing records.

Am I right that Tom still hasn’t signed for next season?

I saw him talking about pre-season at the Brownlow so I have no doubt that he won’t play on, but it seems a bit weird since Tuohy’s one year extension was announced back on Sep 13?

Correct, he was on 360 Thursday and they asked him and he said it was almost done and that they were just finalising the length of the deal :joycat:

They just said on the trading day show on fox that a deal is some way away?
I’m not sure how true that is. But I’d like to think something is done pretty fast.
If they are short changing him I would be furious.
Heart and soul player. Pay him what he deserves.

Josh Jenkins saying it’s $$$ that is preventing the deal from being finalised

We're not letting Hawkins walk.

Scott has 100% learnt his lesson after the Chapman, Johnson, Kelly debacles. He won't let someone like Hawk walk.

Except Scott's not the list manager

Any negotiations will be between Mackie, Wells, Hawkins & co

Highly doubt Scott would be involved in negotiations

I was thinking is Dangerfield now available for the veteran player that gets some of his salary cap not counted? with him being the best paid player I would say they would choose him to be that player which i think Hawkins may of been? maybe this will take some money off Hawks contract if that is the case.

Hawkins seems like a very reasonable person. We would have underpaid him for years as it is. 1 year at want he wants and deserves is only fair. Hard to imagine him going elsewhere but Im nott against it just for the drama and chaos it will create. 2 years at a Melbourne club would be fascinating to watch. Wouldn't go interstate as he has the farm and I think would still live there. Obviously not going anywhere but won't stop the speculation

That rule no longer exists

in the older format yes but I thought there was discussion of its reinstatement in some format for 2024.

Happy to be corrected.

They weren't debacles either.

Disappointing of course to have champions of the club feel their relationships have been soured to a degree, but the club ended up correct on every one of them.

Stevie J is the only argument to be had, but it's a bit of a pointless discussion as there's so many variables that go into it.

He would have gone to the Giants with a massive chip on his shoulder and trained his arse off every session to prove Geelong wrong. It would have been the same within games.

Would that have occurred if he had stayed on? Maybe, but we don't know for sure.

The funny thing with this apparent frustration at Stevie J finishing his career at GWS, is that just one year prior to him making that move there was reports of GWS being interested with the possibility of a top 10 pick being involved in a trade, and people bitched we didn't pull the trigger at that stage & move him on

Seems no win sometimes

Just pay him what he wants. TBone deserves it. It's only going to be for one more year.
That sounds eminently reasonable. However, they clearly have some TPP issues they are working through.

There's a rumour floating around Hawk has agreed to terms. Hope that's so.

“Debacle” is strong but not sure those decisions were correct. Kelly was still good in 2016 when we had a very good (best top end IMO) but very shallow midfield - a big upgrade on Scott Selwood or Josh Cowan. 2016 dogs were very lucky premiers.
Chappy was still good in 2014 and his 2015 wouldn’t have mattered - both reasonable calls by the club that turned out incorrect for mine.

Hawkins was 11th for goals and 25th for goal assists this year and loves the club. Hard to see Geelong lowballing him and I’d be worried if we have any salary cap issues with Selwood gone and Danger & Hawk past their best, and plenty of young and role players on the list.

Only scenario I can imagine him leaving is if we’ve told him we want Neale at full forward for a lot of this season and Hawk doesn’t want to miss that many games. A very hard call to make for a club champion.
