The dogs aren't going to give up a kid. Pick 26/27 is around the mark.

So is Minson but I think I'd rather the pick. Otherwise we'd have 3 lumbering ruckman finishing up over the next 24 months.

Amazing that the Dogs would offer $500k a year. Hard to believe actually.

I'm slightly concerned that it has caused us to offer an extension to 2016 when in reality we should be doing year-by-year now.

Agreed, I think given his age that's a pretty big risk from us.

I can't blame him if he wants to take the money though, that's crazy money for his last contract.

That's not a bad idea. Don't know how the Dogs would feel about it, though.

Minson is fair but if we lose Bundy I don't see us contending for a flag next year in which case trading for a 30 yo doesn't make much sense.

I would rather a good fairly high draft pick if Lonners wanted to go.

Thats the problem, I can't see them doing it unless it is forced on them.

If we're in a position where our coaches are so obstinately inflexible that it requires losing one of the best key defenders in the comp to force them in to making necessary structural changes to the composition of our back six, then the defensive set up we go with next year is the least of our problems.

What would you think it will take to get him?

Some cats fans have talked about a Minson - Lonergan straight swap not the worst idea that comes to mind.

I mentioned pick 26 + 45 for Lonergan and Walker before but you probably don't want/wish for picks.

Hypothetically if you did get say Minson, would Blicavs slot back into defence and maybe take the 2nd/3rd tall forward. I think he can play defence or at least has before. Leaves you a Minson, Clark combo. Could certainly do worse in ruck stocks. Gives Vardy time to develop too.

I'm all for this idea.

There is no way we would consider trading Walker if Lonergan went. Apart from covering forward and ruck for us he also would be option for KPD where we would be left quite thin.

Didn't no Walker could play KPD as well. If he does then thats great for Cats. You guys might start recycling those KPD spots a couple years at a time to restore those position and not leave you with 2/3 retiring at the same time. Walker could be an option down back then. Good size to him.

Definately one of the better ideas I've seen :):thumbsu:
Can see Blitz going back to CHB with Taylor FB and Rivers as the third tall

Was thinking the same. He did well in the handful of games he played there this year. Wouldn't mind that idea at all

So, we now bring in Schoenmakers?
No. Just no.

Spudmakers, Schoenclangers, clangermakers, Hawkins bitch or whatever other name you can think of, will never play in the hoops.

I did explain that post a little later;)

The place was getting a little too serious and needed a bit of levity added to the thread

I know, I saw you explain it. Just putting my feelings about clangers out there so no-one is confused or in doubt. Wouldn't touch him with a 50 foot barge pole.

HUN now reporting $1.5 over 3 years. We have offered a 1 year extension for 2016 but are nowhere near the cash.

If they are prepared to pay $500G pa then they will be prepared to part with one of their picks in the 20's. Good news for us. He was on his way out last year - had a great year but is not irreplaceable. If we can get 26 or 27 off them, we should run.

I would seriously encourage Lonergan to go for that kinda cash/contract length.

He has been magnificent in recent years for Geelong but it wouldn't be the worst time to part ways.
The backline would take on a different look but personally I think we could shuffle players around and maybe also introduce a Brown/Hamling/Kolo into the mix.

It all depends where people see we're at - if you think Geelong is a serious contender for the 2015 flag, then we should be looking to retain Lonergan.

I get a sense that there's a slight majority of posters who'd prefer to pick up ready-made players rather than stockpile draft picks during the trade period, but in what should be a strong draft I'd personally like the club to at least attempt to turn a couple of (potential) defections into a couple of potential guns. In this scenario we're holding onto our first selection no matter what and hopefully winding up with 3 picks inside say #26.

That'd be my preference, anyway.

If Varcoe goes, we've then hopefully got a couple of 2nd rounders, say #30 & #35 ...

That's a good haul in a strong draft; our three flags were built around 2 such strategic drafting years.

I dunno; I just think it's an approach worth considering ...

where did that get us this year,

half rebuilding the team will get us half the results

lets load up on draft picks and go bang bang bang, in a few years it may just pay off

you do trust in wells dont you?

exactly; posted a minute apart, same approach - maybe it'd be seen as a 'bold' approach, but I'd back Wells and his team in to make the most of the opportunity.
