Strikes me as more of a player you'd want filling a role in a good side rather than waiting outside the square for the ball in a rebuilding one...but at pick 65...**** me you'd take that any day.

Yeah. Hes not the answer. But are you going to pick anyone up as good as him past pick 40? Hardly not.

The money thing will have turned off a lot of clubs, but honestly Hawthorn is well placed to pay him for a few years given their list profile. By the time you come good again you'll have downgraded his contract or will ship him off, and in the meantime he fills a role.

In all wildest dreams could we have anticipated replacing Isaac Smith with 24 year old Tom Phillips for as cheap as this. Imaging proposing this at the beginning of the year. With Henderson and Smith gone in the same off-season, it was imperative we got this trade done. I personally expected our pick 23 to be involved with perhaps Phillips and 37 coming back. Straight swap for 65 is daylight robbery and I couldn't be happier.

We would also be able to renegotiate his contract so instead of just 550k next year it might be 400k over the next 3

What's his value ? can these trades work

Phillips & 2020 1st for Gunston & 2021 2nd
Phillips & M Lynch for T McDonald (late pick swaps)
Phillips & 2020 1st for Freo #10 & Connor Blakely
Phillips & 2020 1st for Suns # 5 & W Brodie(or 2MP)

thoughts's ?
Amazing call 😂

Let's not pretend he's a world beater

But, honestly if he wanted out the pies could of gotten a second rounder out of him any other year. Disaster
He's not a star, but he's a relatively young player that's a decent level already with plenty of good footy left, and the potential to put together some very good seasons or games.

You're right any other year hes worth more, this was basically picked up for a nothing pick that mightn't even be used in this draft.

Maybe the only downside is if he's on reasonable coin, but Hawks in fairness probably have cap room at the moment.

Doesn't it work out to be Isaac Smith + 65 for Tom Phillips and 43 or something like that?

Not a bad outcome lol
