Melbourne are much further in their development than anyone thought they'd be this season - Demons supporters included.

I don't think they are. They are just going in hard, tackling and putting pressure on the opposition. When you do that then you are always a show and at worst will be competitive. It still takes the 50-100 games to develop to the point you can win consistently and perform consistently both as the hunter and the hunted.

If Tigers and Crows played like the Dees played then they would be a lot more competitive than what they are atm.

Superb game. His kicking did lack penetration but I reckon that was largely due to the rain. He's not a long kick but normally is longer.

Trengove was far from shit. He played rather well I thought and didn't turn it over any more than the other players who got 20+ touches.

Trengrove was very good I thought, must have watched a different game.

im with your bigbez ... trengrove was great, i was super impressed
he tired in the last quarter and a bit, dont forget it was belting down most of the night, he hasn't done a full pre-season before and it was a very physical game
same issue with scully, he was exhausted in the last, but he was always known as a junior to be just so super fit and thats why he went a lot longer

both boys are so impressive and i dont care if the dees "tanked" to get them, like someone posted, it took a goal after the siren last year to enable them to get that extra pick ... hardly screams of super carltank style

Your post doesn't make any sense at all, the fct that we are doing all th ethings you've suggested demonstrated that we're much further in our development than the general football community thought at the start of the season.

yeah but even so..its one thing saying IF tigers and crows did that and them actually doing it.

i'm sure that the dee's fans are estatic with they way theyre playing

i'm sure the tigers fans this year, as would and dee's fans last year would give anything to see there team playing with as much heart and effort as the dees are atm

regardless of results

Melbourne are building a formidible side.

Who has been the player to truly announce himself this match and this year as a genuine 'A' grade mid....Ryan Griffen. That's 7 very impressive games in a row.

The AFL should just give him the nomination for round 7 now and be done with it. Good to see Dean Bailey being vindicated with on-field performance by his playing group. Hopefully Jack Watts will develop and give Dees fans some more hope and enjoyable days.

He has been very good all year. Tonight he was unbelievable. I'm not that old but I'd have to say I've never seen a better young player down Demonland!!

Normally I'd be livid about being robbed (?) of a win but I just can't help but be excited by this kid. 39 possies. 18 in the last. Freakshow who will only get better...

In recent times has a rookie picked up the ball 39 touches in a game in his first year? would be interesting to see the stats.

And hard touches in the guts...no cheapies off HB.

hes a freak, so glad we have him, gutted to lose tonight.. but the future looks bright

There are three types of people when it comes to Tom Scully and Jack Trengove:

1) Melbourne supporters who are overjoyed
2) Supportive opposition fans who are pleased to see two young guns play some exciting footy
3) Jealous opposition fans who know they'd give up their left testical for Scully and their right for Trengove. Heck, most would probably chuck their wang in too if Grimes and Frawley were put on the table too.

Wet football suits both him and Trengove. Slows the game down a little and increases the number of contests. Both have been exceptional with large minutes.

Both have great utility.

Exactly both of the guys have excelled in the wet. They dominated against Adelaide in the wet in their preseason game as well, probably the second best game each of them have played.

Un...fu@cking...believable:thumbsu::thumbsu:
This kid makes the best decisions by a first year player i think ive ever seen:)

With you on this one chelsea. Take a close look at not only how much he runs and gets the ball, but also the positioning of his body in contests and even once he dishes off the ball (to block a runner). Very smart footballer who will be a star for years to come. Along with Trengove, the Dees have got themselves what will more than likely be 2 elite players. And then you can throw in Grimes, Bates... God help us if Watts comes good.

I can only think of what would have been possible for the Tiges to build a such a list after a few years of tanking / bottoming out. Alas not to be with GC and GWS coming in.

Good luck Dees

I'm number 3, somewhat jealous. Add Trengove and Scully to our list of KPP's and we'd be building a legacy.

I thought before tonight that Scully looked the goods with the way he moved and his kicking was better than what was stated pre-draft. He's quick, wins his own ball and seems to have a reasonably long left foot on him. He'll be the game breaker.

Trengove is more you're tidy unassuming type of player, but still very, very effective.

Needs to work on his kicking, certainly not a strength of his and he had 8 clangers. I guess you can forgive him though, very good game.

Wha?? That's probably no worse than what many more experienced players on the ground had.

Anyway, his kicking was fine, in particular the pass to Bate in the 2nd quarter - absolutely sublime.
