If true and Hawks are trading p53 (or similar) for Scully, surely the AFL would override and not allow this trade to go through.

The AFL gifted Geelong a pick for Motlop which allowed them to get Ablett. Why would they interfere with a legitimate trade?

That said, I wouldnt believe we got Scully so cheap unless there are serious issues with his ankle.

This hawks v bombers feud is absolutely nauseating. Give it a rest will you.

I completely agree. Like a few other threads on this board, start up that crap and you'll get an instant thread ban.

Some posters on our board seem to think we will be taking on Patton also (along with his hefty contract), a bloke that’s done three knees, won’t be back until late next year and on hefty coin. We accept them together and it’s a good salary dump for GWS, we get an aged and injured Scully and the corpse of Patton. Wait and see I guess, but there HAS to be more to this than meets the eye.
This actually makes the pick 50 something for Scully more understandable now.

Can anyone shed any light on what happened to cause the Swans to lose rights to trade for a couple of years? Is it similar to what Hawthorn is doing now?

I agree, Geelong were very lucky with the Motlop deal. This just seems too much one way traffic to me. Your bolded could be correct, but I am hearing that he passed the fitness test/medical. Something just doesn't add up.

That ruling epitomised how farcical and amateur the AFL really is, making shit up on the run as usual. They gave the Swans rules and extras to work with and then punished them for using (albeit manipulating) them after extreme pressure came from power brokers outside of Sydney. An absolute joke, but what we've come to expect from the AFL.

If Scully gets traded for pick 53, it is officially a fire sale at GWS. Every club in the league would be prepared to offer more than that for him but if he only wants to get to Hawthorn and threatens to stay at GWS and hold them to his ~500k p.a. (ironic reversal of a player threatening that to a club) he really has them over a barrel as it's now beyond argument that they have bad cap issues woes and cannot afford to keep him.

I really hope Silvagni tries to shake another one of them loose before the trade period is done, shame he couldn't/didn't get some steak knives with Setterfield even though we got him pretty bargain basement.

Moreso I think something has happened and Scully wants to go to Melbourne, Plus with the Salary cap issue ect. GWS are probably happy to do the right thing by Scully.

Nothing to look into that Phil Scully is now our head of recruitment

No

Sydney had a larger salary cap than every other club, the purpose of which was supposed to be to help Sydney retain players. It was used instead to poach players. Swans were given the choice of immediate removal of extra salary cap concessions and to play by same rules as every other club or trade “ban”. They chose the latter and whinged about it.

Asked someone connected to hawthorn about the pick 53 for Scully trade this morning, apparently its 53 + future 2nd being proposed by the hawks for Scully. Said that they're keen to take 35 to the draft at this stage. Port pushing for 15, burton and 35 in exchange for Wingard and future 3rd, could come down to wednesday night as Hawks won't accept it.

From my recollection, Scully has had 1 maybe 2 elite seasons, the rest have been quite average. Late 2nd-3rd rounder is around the mark imo, especially coming off a serious leg injury

I should have known that there wasn't going to be a decent discussion had in a hawthorn related thread.

There is the possibility that Hawthorn might agree to pay most of Scully’s contract if he ends up at Hawthorn and helping GWS clear more cap space hence why his trade price is low.
