1. Hodge
2. Ablett
3. Goddard
4. Chapman
5. Sandilands
6. Pavlich
7. Montagna
8. Hayes
9. Judd
10. Barlow

Yeah I'd agree with that
its hard to narrow down, but clearly, this year Hodge has been sensational. Barlow is certainly in there, the guy gets 30+ and goals. handy player

Possibly it would help to have the Best Five this year in each position, otherwise is so hard.

Agree with the OP's list...but I reckon you have to find room for Brown. Perhaps for Buddy...

If Buddy had strung some games together this year he'd be leading the COleman...he looks so much better than last year where he was perhaps a bit overweight and struggling for form. But this year he is in fine form. He just can't string 2 games together without getting suspended.

Jonathon Brown in my opinion would still be my first selection if you lined every player in the AFL up and gave me first pick. He is a match-winner and a leader in the truest sense of the word.

I believe the top 5 is pretty clear cut, but Lake should be in the 6-10 bracket, he is an outstanding player, having another amazing year. IMO if he went down, it would be the equivalent of St Kilda losing Riewoldt

#1 Brendan Goddard - Perfect season. Back, middle and foward.
#2 Aarron Sandilands - Game starts in the middle and he dominates it.
#3 Paul Chapman - Dangerous everywhere around the ground.
#4 Luke Hodge - Great leader, playmaker from defence, hard to beat
#5 Matthew Pavlich - Gets his own footy, supplier and attacker
#6 Garry Ablett - Dangerous goal kicking midfielder
#7 Michael Barlow - Contested ball winner, tackler, ball magnet
#8 Chris Judd - Contested ball winner and playmaker
#9 Dane Swan - Hark worker and ball magnet
#10 Steve Johnson - Dangerous foward, kicks goals from everywhere.

Some good lists. The highlights of all this so far (for me) have been:

Barlow being such a gun. Gotta love a story like that.

Brian Lake putting in some heroic efforts in a side far from its peak. I love watching that man play football.

Daisy Thomas making a LOT of people go  by proving he's a actually a very good footballer capable of some consistency.

Hodge, like Lake, playing like a man possessed, dragging a good but out-of-sorts side along by sheer will.

Jack Riewoldt, despite looking like he's about to nick your car, stepping it up on the field in a side that needs leaders.

Forget all the other crap that goes on in the periphery, you've just gotta love footy.

Anyways, here's a top ten from me based of the form Ive seen this year, which is a list I could change in a heartbeat:

1. Hodge. The man's got it all, and is playing out of his skin right now.
2. Ablett. Superstar.
3. Sandilands. Dominates a very difficult position. Huge influence, unstoppable presence.
4. Pavlich. Great player, great leader.
5. Goddard. See Hodge. Hodge wins out due to being a meaner bastard.
6. Hayes. Top shelf.
7. Judd. Missed three when his team needed him, disposal's not breathtaking but still a champion player.
8. Swan. Energizer bunny - just keeps going and going and going.
9. Barlow. WTF!? :D:thumbsu:
10. Lake. Good on you son. Would have him at the Pies eight days a week.

Very close - Chappy, Cooney, Daisy Thomas, Montagna, Riewoldt, Pendles and a few others.

I actually think Sandilands should be ahead of Pavlich at this stage. Both no doubt in the top 10 though, maybe even top 5. But there have been quite a number of times when Pavlich has been floating out of games. Having said that, Pav's presence and influence on the game, when he is up and about is enormous.[/QUOTE]

Thats the point though isnt it? - havent sighted the Pavmonster in 2 weeks now been really ordinary.

Dont recall the last time N Riewoldt went awol for 2 weeks.....

I posted that last week..not yesterday.

Pavlich didn't do much again on sunday, which will bring him down a bit. Freo haven't been playing well this past fortnight so it's not extremely out of the ordinary he hasn't been playing as well either. Having said that, he is a great leader and he should be the one to guide us through games like Sunday's and against Adelaide. Once this break is over, I have faith that Pav will step up again and start to perform consistently each week - back to his usual self. I still regard him as being a top 10 player for 2010 so far and I'm sure many others would as well.

Was the Nick Riewoldt comparison necessary?

great backman who occasionally goes into the middle......meh.....many of them round....

Ha...you bitter peasant

Go knock up some more Goddard-Gladiator photoshops to turn Japanese to...

Surprised so many rate Joey playing better than Hayes. I think Lenny was leading the BF B&F up till this round.

I should really watch more Hawthorn games, actually I should watch more football in general. Bloody Channel 7 and working weekend nights.

Just out of interest, here's the top 10 players in the league right now ordered by Champion Data Player Ranking averages (minimum 8 games played):

  1. Gary Ablett (Geelong) - 136.2
  2. Brendon Goddard (St Kilda) - 134.8
  3. Luke Hodge (Hawthorn) - 129.6
  4. Chris Judd (Carlton) - 126.1
  5. Paul Chapman (Geelong) - 125.1
  6. Aaron Sandilands (Fremantle) - 119.8
  7. Dane Swan (Collingwood) - 119.7
  8. Michael Barlow (Fremantle) - 116.0
  9. Leigh Montagna (St Kilda) - 114.6
  10. Matt Priddis (West Coast) - 112.9
Everyone's favourite Lenny Hayes is ranked 30th (4th in his team), with an average CDPR score of 101.8.

Despite the CDPR being the best all-round statistical measurement of a player's impact on the game (due to all the factors that go into it), obviously statistics aren't everything, so make of that what you will.

1 - lindsay thomas - superstar say no more
2 - ablett - just behind the mighty roo
3 - jack riewoldt - a man one wrecking ball
4 - ablett - so good i listed him twice
5 - judd - clearance work and footskills sensational
6 - eddie betts - has really broken the downhill skiier sterotype, and token indigenous
7 - cyril - he gets my mom wet
8 - israel folau - so good he dosnt need to play to snag a mention
9 - angus graham - averagin 102 in supercoach, must be doin somethin right
10 - toovey - underrated by many, but not me

those are the top 10 standouts this year for mine, head and shoulders above anyone else

Haha as if say that and not mention Priddis. :D:thumbsu:

Effective Disposal Percentage 2010
Matt Priddis - 71.2%
Chris Judd - 63.9%

And yes, before anyone plays the "Judd has two/three guys hanging off him whenever he has the footy" card, Priddis averages just as many contested possessions as Judd. Averages more tackles and more 1st possessions than Judd too.

I don't think Priddis is a better player than Judd (don't even necessarily think Priddis is a top 10 player, either), but he's seriously underrated by many IMO. One of the best inside 'extractors' in the league.
