How many comebacks did we make this season? I have the impression we actually know how to get back into games we are losing...

---
Here, all our 2018 comebacks:

Preseason Showdown
R2 @ Sydn
R3 v Bris
R5 v Geel (then, they got the lead back)
R8 v Adel
R11 @ Hawt (same as Geel)
R12 v Rich
R14 v Melb
R15 @ Carl

9 games; 7 wins.
We came back for 6 of our 11 wins this season!
It's more about being able to switch styles during a game when needed against sides that know how to defend as could be the case in the finals that matter.

Essendon, Geelong, and WCE come to mind and yeah you could include Hawthorn. All with decent coaches that have given us a hard time more than once. We will play finals and have a very good chance of playing important finals at home. We've gone past the ifs or buts stage wrt finals.

However it wasn't meant to be a negative post that focused about one thing. We are playing what has been called finals type footy over the years and that is a good thing.
We can score quick goals given a chance. That is also a good thing.

Can we flick a switch and go from one style to the other quickly and effectively? That is a question that no doubt something we will find out about at some stage during the remainder of the season.

I'm still shitty we dropped games to Hawthorn & far ken Geelong this year we should be top 2 entrenched

We were screwed out of the Hawks game by 50 metre mania. I think the Essendon game was clearly our worst performance of the year, we were nowhere all day and should’ve lost by more really.

The Hawthorn game was more of a worst case scenario of what can happen when we allow teams to stay in a game instead of burying them early when we had a chance.

Agree wrt the Essendon game. The scoreline made us look better than we were on the day.

We took our chances in the first quarter banking 5.2, but then the chances dried up through Hawthorn freely kicking and the umps free kick Hawthorning.

Yeah without re watching the game it could be a tad wrong but I recall some of those 5 goals coming from serious **** ups from Hawthorn defenders, probably against the run of play at the time, however there were stages during the game that we had some serious momentum going and didn't capitalise as much as we could have.

I do recall thinking along the lines of 'yeah one or two more goals and this is over' more than once during that game but that could be just me being one eyed. :D

After half time it was pretty much neck and neck the whole way, neither side led by much more than a goal. Our problem was that we sat back and let them have too much possession, which was reflected in their I50 dominance. The umps compounded this by coming to their rescue a few times too (8-3 50m penalties, 5-0 F50 frees).

Doesn’t matter where we finish, if Jonas is gone for the year we won’t be winning the flag.

Yeah that is all correct but as mentioned I'd have to look at the replay to pin point what/when I meant as I do recall us having the chances to put the game away but we were very focused on playing the contested type game and got bitten by bad decisions/umpiring whatever.

That is the ability to flick the so called switch between styles I suppose.

Anyway IMO we are playing a tad differently nowadays wrt defending, be it by choice or otherwise and are all the better for it.

We have a disturbingly high number of losses where there's an outrageous stat, usually free kicks but this time 50 metre penalties, that totally ****s with the flow of the game. Have to wonder how much of it is match fixing.

The AFL wants it’s “two big Vic teams in the GF” narrative for awhile longer yet.

Top 4 is a must... preferably 2nd or 3rd (dont want to play Rich until GF day). If we dont make minimum prelim (and be competative in all finals games) then the season is a waste. With the pressure football we seem to be playing, I think we have the goods to win it all, especially since there seems to be a heap of improvement left in the side!

Us playing Collingwood and Collingwood playing West Coast makes the run home so curious.

Reckon we'll be banking on Sydney beating Collingwood and Freo winning the Derby.
Freo appears shot, we'll find out this week i guess, but they look like they wont challenge the eagles.

Regardless of wins and losses so far (especially those frustrating losses that are now in the past) we are a finals contender and strong chance for the top 4. However, the WC and Collingwood games will provide the true test as to how much of an impact we can make in September.

messing around with the ladder predictor.

To finish top 4 we can only lose 2 more games for the rest of the season and beating west coast at home is ridiculously important (the old 8 point game).

Wont be easy with GWS, crows, collingwood, WCE and essendon in the run home, but very possible.

Interestingly with my ladder predictor i have hawks 8th with 14 wins. The old 13 win theory might not cut it this year.
