Toughest player in the AFL

Dear Hawthorn fans,

Please spare us your constant fawning of one Luke Hodge. He is moderately tough - certainly tougher than your average outside midfielder - but he is not the pinnacle in the AFL, like so many of you seem to believe.

From this poll, Kirk, Burns, and Brown are all tougher than Hodge.

Others as tough, or tougher than Luke Hodge:

Luke Ball
Joel Selwood
Lenny Hayes
Simon Black
Jimmy Bartel
Daniel Cross
Cameron Ling

haha @ joel selwood and jimmy bartel, certainly hard players but not in the elite of toughness like cameron ling is.

Courage and toughness, all those players have it, but i wouldn't compare them to hodge, brown, kirk, burns or even ling.

Why don't you start a poll to see who goes in harder out of:

Hodge
Selwood
Luke Ball
Bartel
Hayes
Black

...make it public, so we can filter out the biased supporters, and then see how the voting pans out.

I'd put money on it suggesting that Hodge is not in a league of his own, despite the fact that Hawks fans seem to think he's the toughest player ever to play the game.

Interesting thread. Question though, what is tough???

Is it the guy that puts his body/head over the ball at ever oppurtunity regardless of what is coming??

Is it the guy that goes back into a pack with little regard for his own safety and his eyes never stray from the ball??

It is the ability to take a guy out with a hip and shoulder??

Is it the guy who isn't scared to whack someone??

Just curious
