Isn't depression treatable? Without knowing the circumstances, if Schache is struggling in that area surely being closer to family is going to be one factor that would help his recovery.

There are different forms of depression from your general to major forms of the disease. If people are suffering a major form of depression, that can lead to other forms of mental illness such as anxiety or even bi polar.
lf the case was that Schache had a major form of depression he would be on daily high levels of medication to keep him stable. This could be a factor in his ability to play footy at the highest level.
If he was however suffering a major form of anxiety or depression, l doubt he would even be able to play footy at any level.

The Mayne pick up was the complete opposite to what i'm saying.
We paid someone big dollars based on their name and what they've done in the past. It failed. It's the exact reason i'm proposing what I am.

I'm talking about looking at player averages... Their trends... Their benefit to cost ratios and ranking them 1-30 in order of necessity.
Break them into groups and target the top of each group through the year so that when we get to trade week, we know our targets.

"A movie about baseball"... Yeah.. So what. It's list management 101 and relates to all sport with a salary cap. Living proof that with some simple maths and trend analysis, you can put together the right nucleus of players. I sure as s*** think it's a better idea than paying overrated players like Lever and Cameron as much as they're requesting based off the fact they played for a good team this year and the media want to root them.

Just to clarify what was it that you saw in Mayne that suggests he was a big name and had achieved in the past?

He's always been a battler reliant on the system he was in and two tricks, manic pressure and a good set shot. Once the set shot deserted him in 2015 he started trending downhill and then Allen stumbles into the chair. The rest as they say is history!

FWIW you're spot on that move was that far away from "moneyball" it wasn't funny!

I think he's saying exactly that , we recruited Mayne on his reputation as a good finisher and manic pressure player even though statistically his effectiveness had been steadily declining, hence the whole argument he is having with seedsfan saying statistical data should be considered ?

I would hope not because he suggested we chased him as a "name" and that stuff never made him a name. Like Blair he's always been a battler that needed others doing the impact work around him while he did the grunt work.

The only achievements he's ever had in his career on field were top 10 B&F finishes under a coach that's always had a hard on for NQR role players.

The "name" we chased and reeled in last year was Wells, but we just pulled the trigger on that one five years too late.

Making it trade 2017 relevant and Mayne will be on the books in 2018. Guy's first and most important task though is to get into a room with Colin Young and thrash out an exit plan post 2018. I'd suggest we've gone a fair way down that path already considering our TPP is in repair mode, but if we can have him on to say $800k to $1 million next year I'll consider it a win. It leaves us with perhaps a $500k hole in the cap over 2019 and 2020. That's also the most likely reason we aren't chasing anyone this year.

Stats should never play a huge part of recruiting.

Your arguments are getting more irrational and inconsistent by the day.

You used stats to argue Schache is as good as Lynch, Moore and others at the same age not long ago. Now this.

If stats are not important why the hell is there a very expensive annual draft camp where player are measured and tested within an inch of their lives?

Is that all worthless?

If you'd asked someone to give you 10 fremantle player names at the time, he'd have been one of them. That's all I meant by that.

Exactly.

Forgive me if it's been suggested earlier but what about;

6 to Crows
Cameron to Lions
Schache and something back from the crows to the pies. Would 16 be to much? or perhaps a players coming back? I like Jordan Galluci but they probably won't be wanting to give him up.
