Why would they want Gibbs for that price? He is near the end and not what the Crows need. They need some burst players through the middle.
Probably just one of them.

But we would want both in exchange for 6?

Going off draft values:

Trade 1: Melbourne vs Adelaide
*Assuming Melbourne finishes 7th next year and Adelaide finishes 1st*

Adelaide Receive: Pick 10 (2017), Pick 12 (2018) and Pick 66 (2018): 2,743 draft points
Melbourne Receive: Jake Lever, Pick 35 (2017) and Pick 54 (2018): 742 draft points + Jake Lever

Difference: 2,001 draft points (Adelaide +) = roughly Pick 4 for Jake Lever

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trade 2: Collingwood vs Greater Western Sydney

GWS Receive: Pick 7 (2015), Pick 8 (2016) and Pick 65 (2015): 3,285 draft points
Collingwood Receive: Adam Treloar and Pick 28 (2015): 677 draft points + Adam Treloar

Difference: 2,608 draft points (GWS +) = roughly Pick 2 for Adam Treloar

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously draft point analysis doesn't paint the whole picture (e.g. what was acquired by on-trading those picks). But we definitely coughed up more for Adam Treloar imo. Good key position players that are already developed at 21 are very rare and hard to come by. Midfielders are easy to find these days even though Treloar is a jet. Saying that, glad we didn't deal for Lever!

Trade values are only for academy and father-son selection and don't directly value each draft year in relation to quality, etc. (some drafts and prospects are better and deeper than in others)
An attempt to judge each deal based on such is ridiculous, especially to assume that Adelaide finishes 1st and Melbourne 7th too.
Its apples and oranges.

So we gave Mayne $500k for 4 years = $2mil (of which we've likely already paid $500k).

Is it possible for us to

Terrific summary mate. I agree with the above (which I've bolded).

I think the thing that hurt us was our finishing position in 2016 - 12th (equaling pick 7).

We thought we were going to finish a lot higher, which would have changed your equation.

Trade Radio have dropped Lynch's name a few times this morning and saying a few things that suggested a move in this period isn't beyond question.
What if Pies offered a 7 year deal next year for Lynch which would mean the Suns get a very early pick (possibly pick 3 or lower).
The Suns might then let him go without matching the offer

Calm down man. If you took time to read what I wrote before getting all worked up I stated "draft point analysis doesn't paint the whole picture". It's just another way at looking at it. Also based on this year, I think its a fair enough assessment to assume Adelaide finishes 1st and Melbourne 7th for the purpose of analysis.
