I would have called this one "The post coital bliss edition"
or maybe "The post ejaculatory guilt syndrome Edition"

depending how the Stringer trade sits with you I suppose
All i know is over the past 5 threads it was one hell of a **** fest and we have all come out smelling like a dirty sweaty taint ;)

I'm sure I have missed this earlier in the thread but how many players are we required to delist? And who are they likely to be?

Is it a definite that we will be delisting honey and Cremeri? Are there any other options?

It's a crazy idea, but is there any chance of negotiating a contract buyout with Cloke over the next 24 hours that we're willing to pay him a bit more to make him happen, relative to what we were willing to pay earlier in the trade period?

Say Cloke is on $250k. We can sign Crameri for $150k new year. If we have $50k cap room say by some hard negotiation on Schache (Brisbane is paying $50k of his salary this year that wasn't going to be the case yesterday), that means we can go to Cloke: "Hey mate, I know you wanna play footy, but look we've now got Schache, the chance of you getting a game is a lot lower now, we're willing to pay you $150k of your guaranteed $250k and you can retire and play local footy and do whatever you want? Maybe we only had the cap room previously to buy him out $100k, but he wasn't willing to do it earlier in the year, but he would do it for $150k now.

Means that we can still promote Roarke Smith (meaning that we don't run the risk of another club taking him with their last pick in the national draft before we can re-rookie him), we get to keep Crameri, and we don't have Cloke on our list, who lets face it will only be getting games next year if at least 2 or 3 of Roughead, Boyd, Schache and Redpath are not fit.

Doubt we would of picked up Trengove to play him in the 2’s so I would count him in the best 22. Who knows about the others as we all know Bevo loves to rotate the guys in different positions! I just hope the team settles a bit next year. Like I understand being flexible is good but I feel that we moved people around a bit to much this year.
Including coaching staff too.

Wanted to get more for Stringer, think he will haunt us the next 10 years, but understand for whatever the reason the club wanted him gone. We could potentially be made to look quite silly

The Carlton trade... we got smashed there. 25&30 for 16 was fair, swapping pick 40 for our 2018 R2. If it was a R3 I could have lived with it, but we paid too much (compare this trade with the similar trade we did with them 2 years ago, we got reamed)

We won the Schache trade.

Hard to know how to feel.

If find it frustrating, this time 12 months ago i thought we were about to have the most successful period in the clubs history.

Now it feels like we haven taken quite a few steps back and we are back with the pack.

We are now relying on two high drafted forwards who are yet to live up to expectations.

Not quite sure how that happened but I hope I’m wrong

As much as I like the thought process and I think it'd be nice to keep Crameri, I think we've tested the confidence and loyalty of enough contracted players already. There's every chance Cloke says no to that suggestion, but then has his confidence dented because he's unwanted and plays worse next year. Hopefully the club has learned from Campbell and Jong- they've just unnecessarily harmed those relationships.

I don't think it's something that needs to be "tested" as much as it is a friendly way to ask Cloke the question. We should preface the conversation by saying "you're 100% entitled to honour your contract mate" but then just tell him straight up the realities of the likelihood of him getting games, now that we've somewhat unexpectedly got Schache. There's a very reasonable chance that Cloke plays a total of 0 games next year in the AFL team, if Schache, Boyd, Redpath stay fit, Roughy finds some good form, and we might even swing Adams forward at times, so it's not me just saying it for the sake of saying it - would he rather be playing a season of VFL with the training and contract requirements of being a listed AFL footballer, or playing local footy whilst getting a guaranteed $150k buyout without having to train four days a week and giving him the option of spending more time with his new wife and child etc.?

First time in a long, long time we actually have a deep collection of mostly competent genuine key position players on the list, with most of them relatively young:

Boyd, Schache, Redpath & Cloke up forward; Adams, Cordy, Trengove, Morris, Roberts, Collins & Young in defence; Roughead, English & Campbell in the ruck.

So in a years time, who’s gonna be off the list? Cloke and Morris will probably retire, who else is under the pump? Dickson? C. Smith? Jong? Campbell? Suckling? Rookies go without saying.

Every chance that we trade our new abundance of KPD's. There's very little chance that both Collins and Roberts are both on the list beyond next year, either trade or delisting.

Yeah, that's a reasonable way of putting it and I wouldn't mind if the club did that. I get the feeling from the stringer reaction and the rumoured campbell reaction that the club hasn't been handling those sorts of conversations too well recently though. If the club went to Campbell and said "hey, brisbane are interested in you. We're more than happy to keep you, but we can facilitate a move up there if you're interested", I feel like Campbell wouldn't have reacted the way that is rumoured.

I mean, let's not oversell it. Collins is completely unproven, as is English. Campbell is average at best, young had some very bad games there, Schache is far more potential than anything else and Cloke is cooked.

You think “mostly competent” is overselling it?

For a few of them, yep. I just don't want people to get their hopes up that we're going to have good KPP depth, nd then it turns out there are a fair few duds in there.
