There will be money flying around at a range of young kids in the next few years. i hope we know what we're doing with Boyds contract and adding Hurley into the mix as well. I know we say we have heaps of cap room but we need to make sure we look after our youn guns sufficiently. It's not just Bonts and Stringer. It's Libba, Macrae, Dahl, Hunter, Daniel, JJ etc.
The new agreement will of passed by 2018 and will be able to offer bigger salaries etc

Tim Watson now saying he wouldn't be surprised if Hurley leaves. He's gotten less and less confident each day it seems.

I have no fear in Bonti or Stringer leaving. Both are super committed to the club and both will prob have 1m contracts thrown at them but im pretty confident both will receive that at one stage at the dogs anyways. We will move on other's before those 2.
Yea this.
I think we'll lose players of the caliber of McLean, Webb, Stevens, and at a pinch Macrae if we lose any at all.
I wouldn't have thought that Essendon had any bargaining power when it came to the players they treated like guinea pig pin cushions

I've thought it from day one. Love the guy, but his also in it for the $$ for his family.

His a good player, just not sure if he is die hard bulldogs.

I know his had a couple of downer games and people have them. However when he gets caught with holding the ball because he is too selfish to pass it off and tries to take them all on, worries me that his just not up for it.

I think his to worried about being famous rather than sticking to the basics. Too busy calling himself the package

Lol. Just lol

He was the first one at the club when it imploded at the end of 2014. He wears his heart on his sleeve and clearly loves his teammates. His family are passionate about the club.

We all love it when he busts through three or four opponents and snaps a goal. We hate it when someone like Jong handballs to another teammate in traffic. I'd prefer that Jake backs his talents and takes the game on instead of acting the altruist and turning it over/neutralising it anyway.

As for "too busy calling himself the package," that's crap. Go read one of the long form pieces on him, he doesn't buy into his own hype one bit.

lol. Bont admitted that he call's himself the package

Sure. That's indicative of an ego problem that is clearly interfering with his football.

Sounds like something I'd read on an opposition board.

Guys, honestly, wake the **** up. That lizard lurkin troll came here with one purpose! to stir up shit, that is why he posted here first , then on the junkie forum, then on the rumor forum, in that order i think, i was awake and online when he did it. He made that stringer crap up, and you are taking what he says with a even 0.00001% seriousness.

unreal.

Few ways you can take it. Ego can play a part more than you think.

Its not all ego and probably the fact he has a young family and tiring him out

I don't get why people throw this line out there. You do realise other clubs salary caps also go up, right?
It's all relative so doesn't change a thing.
Yes but it will allow us to be more competitive as might be able to get others to take a pay cut etc. Apparentley Boyds contract is front loaded, so will allow to push it up further

Reminder Hurley hasn't signed. And AFL Controlled GWS has better players than Stringer they can offer big money too.

Are you talking about bont or stringer? Your freaking me out

I would expect Stringer to leave for money, nothing else
Stringer didn't hint at leaving.

He said if he was presented with a huge offer, he'd have to consider it because his young family's future and security is more important to him than football. He knows as well as anyone how quickly it could all end.
In an interview a way back, can't remember when. He was asked ... something ... about contracts and he said you had to consider offers and the security of your family, but he said (at the time) it was only a very small chance he'd leave. I'll look for it, it might have been last year.

Yeah saw that. Was in the Herald sun.

Dont blame him though, needs to look after his family

A few things folks need to remember with their "dream" trades.

Having too many capable players competing for similar spots is great for depth but can also lead to fringe players seeking more footy elsewhere. For this reason I cannot see why we would consider a Fyfe, Deledio et al being thrown around on these pages. We are getting games into our 2nd and 3rd string mids and still winning. Leave it alone !

Our quicker than expected rise, (I'd go as far as saying a GF THIS year was possible before the injuries hit) has meant a different view to "needs" is now imminent.

Essendon have shown previously an interest in BTC and Clay They have also suggested they do not want draft picks, they want like for like player swaps. So picks and steak knives won't get us Hurley (who imho must be THE priority this trade period). If BTC is needed to get it done, then priority 2 is ruckmen. I like the BTC/Rough combo potential as they both can offer resting 2nd/3rd tall options forward. I DON'T subscribe to the we need a KPF to fill in for Redpath school of thought if we retain BTC. BTC/Rough Boyd Crameri Stringer is good enough for me. Boyd and Red in tandem didn't set the world on fire, and running two big blokes as well as the resting ruck DOES hamper our much vaunted "forward pressure". So the deal with the Bombers is crucial to establish what else we need to draft/trade. If BTC goes, we need a quality ruck, but won't have the cap space and/or trade currency to get one. If BTC is kept, we need a depth ruck as Minno and Goetz won't be available. So maybe we will have to trade out from our strength (mid depth) and lose a favourite son. Despite what some regs here think of our mids depth, I think it is phenomenal. The players missing due to injuries has not affected our ability to win games and lead the way in contested possies. I see so much upside in Webb and Dunks too, combined with our well known stars, we are more than healthy with mids.

So what/who ARE we willing to lose to get Hurley ?

And please stop the talk on Vickery, Cloke, Vardy (unless BTC stays) and resist the temptation to dream of another gun mid joining our ranks.

Read on the Pies board someone saying Fasolo might be on the way out at year end.

I think a huge gap in our list is natural forwards. Sick of us playing so many part time mids up there.

Any interest? Perhaps as part of a trade for Jong?

Our second and Jong for Fasolo would be all good with me.
