There's no way Carisle isn't at the Dons next year. His manager has come out and said that he will fulfill his contract. Just forget about it.

End of next year though, different story. THAT is when we should be going hard at him and I have no doubt that we have already started whispering in his ear. In fact, his manager verifys that some teams already are. I'd be very suprised if we weren't one of those teams.

This year if we can get Jaksch or Reid without giving up our 1st rounder then fine but if not, load up through the draft again and go hard next year at the plethora of KP's coming out of contract (Carsile number 1 target imo). As in the past years we should still keep a look out for bargain players where we don't need to give up much (Darley, Stevens, etc).

You pay for what you get and we need a Mercedes at the moment

Rumours I've heard, nothing that I'd call reliable

- Ryder to Sydney, not Brisbane
- Reid is on the trade table to relieve some cap space
- Higgins' desire is to get to a Melbourne based premiership contending club

Also we are one of the clubs that have pulled out of the race for Mitch Clarke. The story I heard was Clarke pulled the dirty on Melboourne, he told them he would stay and had Melbourne's fitness staff help him out. Then only recently he said he didn't want to be there and that he wanted to go to a more successful club.

I said early on that I didn't think returning to football was a good idea for Clark - I'm not convinced he's ready long term for it. It doesn't seem like he is being well advised at the minute and I think it'll end up going pear shaped if he doesn't get picked up by someone.... This has train wreck written all over it.... Hope I'm wrong.....

I would have offered 1 year plus an option for a second. I am a bit worried we're overcommitting to players with the length of contracts being offered.
I like giving two year deals, except for older blokes like Murph and Boyd, or players going into Free Agency.
Why? You might ask.
Because it gives you better trade options, in effect you own the player.
We can trade him and get value rather than be threatened with FA or leaving out of contract to be picked up in the PSD for nothing.
Two year deals give the club a slightly better hand.

Yeah, fair point. I just worry about how it balances with the very young squad we have. I'm not 100% sure (as there was some discussion about it), but Goodes may be contracted for next year. Boyd is playing, Higgins is seeking 4 years... If we do this for all players, do we have the ability to chase hard at FA's or uncontracted players, give the kids the salaries they deserve as they develop and do we risk losing people to other clubs - because they'll already be looking at Macrae, Stringer, Bonts and others - saying how can we get these guys....

In Jong's case, do we really think he'll leave at the end of next year if he continues to improve ??? I don't see that as a major risk IMO...

I reckon Lynch has more upside
Cameron is a great leaper and marking forward but i see lynch win more contested 1v1 marks from the games i have seen

Good, because if that's true, it's a dog act and he's not the sort of person I want at the club.

Yes, he has/had depression and I know what effect that can have on a person, but losing your decency doesn't go hand in hand with it.

He'd fit right in at WO then! :D

For Cameron, I would offer $10m over 10 years in a heartbeat. Got the runs on the board, 60 plus goals in a bottom side with obvious brilliance. Best young player by a mile.

After 7 or so years $1m a year would be massive unders. Dogs need to really think outside of the square and go in hard with big dollars if they expect to attrach anyone good. It would be like th Brisbane Alister Lynch deal, massive unders by the end of his contract.

I'd prefer Cameron over Carlisle

I doubt we are going to give Higgins a 4 year deal. We have the right to match an opposing deal if Free Agent is restricted. Which I think Shaun is.
Jong although I think of him as an average player has done enough to get one x two year deal. If he shows no further development then 2 years isn't a massive waste.
Boyd is good in that we have very little experience at the 26-33 age bracket, poor overall recruiting has left us light there.
Murphy will finish after 2015, Morris is likely to finish 2015, Boyd and Cooney 2016.
It leaves us with little time to get our next group of leaders.

Last year Jmac said on radio we weren't interested. There's no danger of him coming here.
I think getting him in PSD is worthwhile. Where we get him just for his wage, I haven't wanted to trade for him.
He is a handy backup player. I think he offers more than Ayce. I am sure others will disagree.
He has a nasty streak which we lack.

Clark to Collingwood for Lumumba.
He has done psych evaluation, fitness evaluation and interviews.
Paige Cardona 90% sure it's done.
She is pretty switched on.

Boyd should finish up before Murphy and Cooney, Murph has versatility and agility still (vision and disposal let him down at times late in the year), Boyd is insurance for Smith and Wallis who are currently injured. I'd be disappointed if Boyd went on 2 more years, could get another developing kid in there instead.

I think Murph and Boyd probably only have 1 more year in them. Maybe Morris too. If Murph keeps the drive to play maybe 2 more. But he's a smart cookie, if his passion wanes he'll step aside for the younger gen, plus he's pretty well assured of big career in the media afterwards.Cooney will hopefully have a couple more if we can manage his body.

For what it's worth, IMO the Jong upgrade was a good call. The kid has courage you wish you could bottle and if his disposal gets up to AFL standard will be a great replacement for Picken in time. Unfortunately the rules state that if we didn't upgrade him as a 3rd year Rookie, we can't have him on the list and he may have been lost to us by end of October.
