A fit center line with Macrae, Liberatore, Bontempelli, Wallis, Hunter.. Stringer playing deep, Biggs and JJ running off the backline..

As for Grants place in the side, he's a winger or forward but will compete with Hunter, Macrae, Biggs and JJ for that position on the wing.. Leaves him fighting for a spot on the forward line which is highly contested right now
Spot on Mike, he played a fair bit up forward on Saturday night..... I'd keep him but on our terms

After Saturday night I can not believe everyone on this board isn't screaming for Carlisle.......... Roberts is a fuknnnnnnnnnnnnn joke and lost us that final.

^^Silly thing to say^^

Secondly, Grant isn't holding anyone out of the team. Bevo's mantra is clear and that he is getting a game says he's of value to both the team and the club. He's been consistent all year - you can argue output, but he's been generally good all year. He runs to create and is an important link up player by hand with his speed and creativity. I hope he stays.

For those rueing his set shots (and I'm the first to admit he's poor in front of goal) he's no worse than Stringer and miles ahead of Dahlhaus, so let's temper the isolated negativity.

We do have too many dodgy set shot kicks IMO. Honey, Crameri, Dahl all worry me. Perhaps with Grant he is the most expendable?[/QUOTE]

just a question on that, do we really have anyone that can regualarly kick goals from set shots from outside 50? Walkers goal on the weekend is something i dont think Boyd could do, his not that big of a kick is he?

Not sure what we gain from letting Grant go unless the club is confident we will receive a 2nd round compo pick? Can't see anyone paying him a salary that will justify it TBH but he is a young free agent and has played a lot of games in the last season. We can't be desperate for the cap space yet but maybe we want to front load Boyd to the max? I can easily see us paying Boyd $2m+ in 2016, losing Grant is no great on field loss and means an extra $300k we can give to Boyd, which in turn is more money in future years to retain the players we need.

Tom Boyd's set shot kicking is excellent - he'd be one of the best on our list.
I'd prefer to keep Grant - he is super-quick and has super-sticky hands. Perhaps we'll have Toby Mclean surpass all expectations and spend most of the year in the side as a mid/forward? Smart footballer, good disposal, excellent overhead for his size.

Have we ever had any, let alone now? Maybe Picken of the current players but none of them look confident from 50

One's been flaking out consistently for 7 years. The other is a 19 year old who's been arguably our best and most composed player all year.
Ones been missing set shots all year with a flakey set shot technique the other probably hasnt missed one all year but on the big stage couldnt convert, if anything that proves my point even more. Dont get me wrong I'm not blaming bont at all, I wouldnt blame a 19 year old for struggling with the pressure but I just find it funny how Grants the mentally fragile one yet everyone except Dickson was missing sodas all night.

Yeah Boydy thumped one from near the boundary outside 50 in the vfl on the weekend and hit the goal post 3/4 up.

Herald sun saying we could delist and then re-draft Grant. Why would we do that.

Just offer him a small one year deal and see what we can get for him. If there are no bites then keep him on the list.
The reasoning is that it would count as one of our three minimum picks at the national draft. Still don't think it's a great idea though. The draft can't be that shallow, and we've got three others we could delist anyway if we so badly wanted to keep Grant.

If we wanted to trade players in though, it could be an option, because we would then need to delist more than three.

Cramers kicked 30.16 before this week - thats about average. Him and Stringer seemed to think they had to do it all and that also cost us a few high probability shots on goal.
Crammers is above average on the surface of it, but how many of those were running into goal after doubling back and burning off his opponent? he does that well

Understand the context... im not having a dig at Bonts i just find it funny how 15 players can make the same mistake but just the one (who happens to be a whipping boy) is attacked because of it.

For me I find Grant incredibly frustrating because he would be in the top few players at the club for natural athleticism. He would also comfortably sit in the top third for talent. Yet he has never really delivered much despite his natural gifts. Give me a Boyd, Cross or a Picken any day. Yeah they heck up but it's not because they haven't got the best out of themselves. And Grant has admitted himself that he hasn't been mentally strong enough.

I don't particularly want mentally soft players at the club because they will let you down in big moments time and time again. In fact, I highly doubt Grant would ever have been recruited under our current drafting structure that seems to prioritise mental toughness.

You can spot the types of players who fold in big moments after a while (Eagleton, Yarran, Lewis Jetta, Leon Davis, Ballantyne and even Trent Cotchin spring to mind). And I don't think it's creating a whipping boy by pointing this weakness out when Grant's list spot is up for debate.

I find it interesting that Beveridge is on record as suggesting that we won't be making many changes and that he wants to keep the group together...yet we still currently have eight players not signed beyond this year. Fuller, Darley, Pearce and Goodes at least are surely in trouble while murmurs suggest that Grant and Talia will also leave, with Minson's future in doubt. Not to mention Cordy and Kelly. It's intriguing. That's a lot more than minimal changes. To me that says that we're either bringing in a couple of players that we rate relatively highly, or that there are surprise re-signings/retentions to come.
