It's nice that we can agree Jong is midfield depth. :thumbsu:

And FWIW every players gets assessed in every game by Bev and four assistants. So you (and others') mental gymnastics about why Jong polled poorly are all for nought. And yes he was also relatively poor on a per games played basis. Simple fact is that Jong is not that highly rated by the MC relative to the rest of the list.

Charles Sutton Medal
How they vote: Coach Luke Beveridge and four assistants each give a vote from zero to five for each player in each game of the season. Players can receive a minimum of zero or maximum of 25 votes for any game.

A quote from the Bulldogs website on Lin Jong after re-signing.

"Jong reached career-highs in multiple statistical categories this season (average kicks, handballs, marks and goals per game) and emerged as an important cog in the Bulldogs midfield.

List Manager Jason McCartney said Jong’s signature was welcome news ahead of the upcoming trade period.

“Jongy has shown improvement year on year since being drafted in 2011 as rookie, but in particular his second half to this year was outstanding.”

“He is everything we'll look for in a player in terms of his character and work ethic, and for Lin to sign for a further two years is just a great result for the Club.”

I'll back this opinion on Jong.

As if a recent direct quote of our list manager is a reliable indication of how the club rates him

Good post, thanks for that it seems pretty accurate. Should put any contrasting theories to rest.

It seems most folks just don't get it. Had we not traded out Hrovat (regardless of what we received) we had to chop a contracted player. Who should we have sacrificed to enable us to refuse the trade ?As much as I believe Hrovat has potential, he was not and is not one of our top 10 mids. So again, to save grace with disappointed fans maybe folks like you would have preferred we offloaded maybe Dunkley and Pick 18 for Lids ??

No, folks like me would have held out for a better deal and called Norths bluff saying he could go to the PSD and North risk getting nothing. I believe we didn't get the best deal we could have, that is very different to not understanding why we did the deal.

Which would've been utterly counterproductive and damaged trade relations for no reason.

Combative as discussions can be on here, the relationships between list managers are fairly amicable and they're not going to throw it in their opposite number's face for the sake of not much.

Hrovat was worth very little, we had limited room to move in terms of adding players to our list, and we've probably bought two 10 spot upgrades in the next draft.

It's not a big deal.

But PSD nets us zilch. I understand your POV, and in some cases holding fast is a principle. In this case I just think our supporters (like most) overrate the fringe dwellers, thus holding out in this case may have nudged us up a couple of picks, or we gain nought. Is it really worth the fuss when net gain in all honesty would have been marginal ?

When we know someone is going to be delisted and all his teammates and let's not forget friends know he is going to be delisted is it really worth playing hardball over a couple of lousy draft picks? I'd rather just keep everyone happy,it's worth its weight in gold and if we put him in the PS we get nothing pick wise anyway and risk upsetting players just to prove some sort of point.

I see the classic "I believe I could have *[negotiated a better deal] *[made a better assessment of a player's worth] than the club despite having absolutely no insight into the situation" arguments remain as popular as ever.

Now wait for the old 'this is a discussion forum, if we can't have opinions we ought to shut the whole thing down' chestnut.

Next year Hawthorn lose Hodge, Gibson, and Burgoyne. All on top coin. There stradegy relies on getting at least 3 FA next year with big bucks in cap to get them. Both Fyfe and Martin availabe next year would be high on there list. It's up to other clubs to make bigger offers to thawt there plans.

I prefer the old a million a year even though every media outlet and people close to the source have said its around 800k.

But of course this isn't true unless you actually produce the contract itself to refute that.

Did you hear the Deledio is on 5 million a week? Show me the contract that says it isn't true lol

You'd think so, but unfortunately, I highly doubt it.

I hope we do get Willie Rioli because I will giggle like a schoolboy. 'Good Willie, bad Willie, stop playing around with it, Willie, get your hand off it, Willie'.

Yes, I'm a child.

It was easy for them to cherry pick as premiers(something we wasted) but it won't be so easy for them moving forward.

Blokes went there knowing they would go deep into finals but depending how the go this year that may not be the case in the future

Given how tight we were for spots - so tight we literally couldn't keep Rat and Koby, let's all assume the club has a pretty healthy opinion of everyone who's still on the list.
Seeing as you're seeing Dal soon pann any chance you could ask him where Jongys at in the clubs eyes? And really put this discussion to bed on here.

Personally I think it's pretty bloody obvious he's rated quite highly internally

He got offered a contract in front of others, played a lot of games this year, won the VFL BOG in the GF (again) and was arguably one of our best in the Elim Final last year. I think it's safe to say, even without talking to him, that he's viewed positively by the club
