Firstly he's not on that much mate, you'd be looking at more like having both those players for around the same price that Boyd is costing you alone and you get a forward who is still twice as good as Boyd even when taking his current form into account as well as a more than solid ruckman.

Because at the moment your paying $1,000,000.00 for a below average ruckman if you didn't realize.

This would be just a much a salary dump as it would be a trade.

Gunston alone would get us a first and a young gun (Dunkley) on the open market and while this scenario as a whole appear high to some it would enable you to say offload Cloke and pay those monies to others who would better serve your team.

Anyways all good mate and good luck for the rest of the season.

Unfortunately you haven't come in here armed with many facts man.

The whole salary dump part of this trade falls flat in its face in a year or so when gunston asks for a significant payrise.

Any interest in Harley Balic? Granted indefinite leave from Freo, a lot are saying it's homesickness. Has shown some upside in the few games he's played and I imagine wouldn't cost much. Rated in his draft year (2014) but slipped a bit to 38, which some Freo fans say is because of fears over a wrist injury. Could be a buy-low good-depth-with-upside pickup.

We're not interested in depth, I wouldn't think. Who would he play in front of?

So if we added 4 All-Australians and 2 more who are in AA form, we'd be a better team
Obviously !! :D

Maybe if you consider the six players attributes and skill sets,
you may grasp the true meaning of the post. I did say zero
percent of it actually happening.

Ben Long anything like Fantasia, Walters and Wingard maybe
in time he will be.

just a quick question here. How long does everyone on here think we will be able to contend for?

With the age of our list, if we can find adequate replacements for Morris, Murph, Picken & Boyd, we should be a threat for the next 4-5 years.

There's a lot of factors though: injury, player retention, internal politics, media hype, etc. that can affect this but we have a great list of players who will hopefully all peak around the same time.

I have no idea on the validity of it, but I've heard it's not homesickness and there's still a fair chance he's at Fremantle next year.

I worry about our backline and how we replace so many so quickly. That aside, we have the talent in the forward two-thirds of the ground to sustain us for a decent window, in my opinion.

As long as we can keep our core of stars together I'd suggest we have 5-6 years minimum being "thereabouts".
Footy history indicates players peak years are 25-28. Considering the ages of Bont, Stringer, Dal, Macrae, Wally, Libber, Toyd, JJ, Wood...... suggests we are still on an upward trajectory and have already won a flag. The 3 veterans that are due retirement we seem to have covered with the Baileys, Webb & Lippy. Perhaps a Morris replacement is required, (Roberts, Adams and Collins MAY be ok), but we do have English coming on well and looking like he can become A grade within this time. I haven't seen list quality this good in all my years as a Bulldog.

A lot will depend on the kids we pick up in the draft over the next few years. Sydney's kids seem very good, Hawks and Geelong and Freo kids not so much.
If we can pick up some good A or B grade talent to replace the ageing guys over the next few years then we will be up for longer.

I get what you say but I honestly believe we have that covered with the incumbent youth. There are always a few tweaks needed. But I'm more on the Hawk philosophy now. Use the trade table to fill requirements whilst in the window. EG. A Seb May type backman would be perfect.

Just a quickie: Is Picken an option to play the Boyd role over the next 2-3 years? Good tackler, overhead and contested mark and decent enough by foot to be relied upon coming out of defence.

Or is he a bit wasted there considering what he's capable of up the ground and in the guts?

With Bevos flexibility mantra anything is possible. But I do think he holds more value (now) as mid/forward and has his old role tucked up his sleeve (tagger) if that role becomes redundant.

Agree but talking more several years down the track when our youth is in its prime. So replacing Wood Picken etc.

Caleb an option here?

I have a feeling they are grooming Webb for this role.

I like the idea, but I think the hardest thing to replace will be Boyds leadership and voice organising our zone.
Don't know if Picko has that in him.

May just said he's staying at GC and a deal will be done before the end of the year

My read on his quotes is that he will enter discussions with the club before the end of the year, but stopped short of saying that he'll sign. He has "a lot to weigh up."
