As far as big rucks go, Meese is really limited. Basically gets by on size and aggressiveness which is enough for him to do well at state league level but he's just not good enough around the ground to make it at AFL

Agree he is in the Toby pinwill mould great VFL but not up to AFL

Probably another thread needed but, much like the Team of the Century, can we make a list of Whinges of the Century? For a bit of historical context. I would add:

* Nathan Eagleton
* Craig Ellis
* Royce Hart
* 70s administration - selling off players
* Scott Clayton
* Syd Coventry (whipping boy of the 1930s...big honcho from Collingwood who coached us to 6 wins in 3 seasons. What a crock!).
Ben Harrison!

The forwards weren’t the problem this year - the whole team was the problem. Although I’ll be gutted if he’s traded as expected, I just don’t think it’s going to make a massive difference to our fortunes.

One player doesn’t make that much of a difference.

A midfield that gets back on top, applies real heat and maintains centre clearance domination and gets the ball quickly into the forward line is infinitely more important to our fortunes next year than getting in a key forward. There is not a forward line in the history of the game that would have won us a flag this year with the midfield performances we put out.

It also exposed the backline like it hasn’t been exposed under Bevo.

There are so many more issues than Jake IMO.

I do think Stringer was more important to the premiership than he got credit for though Pann. Our mids/general structure make it hard for our forwards to score sometimes and there have been a number of games where flashy goals out of nowhere have been very important in helping us lift and get over the line. My concern is that without him there is very little in the way of spark in that forward line.

I certainly hope I'm wrong, but I look at a potential forward six next year and shudder.

What we need are some STRONG leaders in our leadership group who can pull a wilful character like Jake into line. Dale, Easton, Bont, are just too nice. Imagine Jake explaining to Joel Selwood why he only laid one tackle :eek:.

Just updating my most over-the-top criticism from bigfooty rankings:

1. Jason McCartney
2. Gia
3. Whoever our VFL coach happens to be at the time
4. Redpath
5. The concept of civil discussion

We have a new leader. Honestly I thought Gia would be hard to displace given the many facets to his criticism (soft player/ruined our forwardline in 2016/ruined our midfield in 2017), but Jason "worst negotiator since the Sydney siege" McCartney has had a very strong few weeks.
On Gia has there been any talk about coaching changes yet?????
