I do think Stringer was more important to the premiership than he got credit for though Pann. Our mids/general structure make it hard for our forwards to score sometimes and there have been a number of games where flashy goals out of nowhere have been very important in helping us lift and get over the line. My concern is that without him there is very little in the way of spark in that forward line.

I certainly hope I'm wrong, but I look at a potential forward six next year and shudder.

The forward line is very pedestrian without him. Forward lines are not where you want to be pedestrian.

Why does this prick have it in for us, seriously he couldn't talk down stringers trade value more if he tried, it really is morally unfair, he is entitled to his opinion but he is hate bashing our club and I for one can't stand someone that is attacking the very fabric of what our club stands for
It's because Bevo made him urinate in his pants when he threatened to punch his lights out. Sad pathetic insignificant little man.

Not a Barrett fan but as others have mentioned it’s hard to argue that we haven’t handled it well.

We have taken a contracted star and let it be known he will be traded.

Bev said it was a mutual decision, all it was going to take was for jake to come out and say no it wasn’t.

People say it’s only the media saying he is worth pick 20 - list managers live and die by their reputation and it’s only human nature that they won’t want to be seen as getting ripped off.

Not saying it’s completely bevs fault - could have gotten better advice from the list manager and media manager.

But there is no doubt Stringers value has been hurt as a result.

Only solution for it is to hold out to the very end and put pressure on the Cats that for a second year in a row they will miss out on a star who has nominated them.

Only drama with that is that I keep hearing we want him out no matter what, but we have to at least play it that way.

If anyone honestly thinks that stringers trade value is effected by anything a journo says...................come on guys. We've been doing this long enough haven't we??

The industry (actual industry, not media) narrative around stringer himself is already starting to change.

Well said Fronk. Everyone knows a player's real trade value is really decided by bigfooty negotiation, not by the media.

Positively or negatively? Most of us only see the media. Are you saying industry value is rising or dropping? And if it's dropping is it perceived work ethic or his one armed tackles. I still say he and Jack Darling are cloned value and I think Darling has dropped over the last 2 years as well. Pick 8 - 18 wouldn't surprise me but I'd still hope it would be in the 2018 draft not this year.

It's amazing. People genuinely believe the opinions on the Stringer thread on the draft & trading board are representative of his value. And those opinions are 100% derived from Barrett and a few other journalists speculating.

So [deleted] comes out last night and says "the Dogs are only now trying to control where he goes to get the best deal." (Paraphrasing).

No shit. In fact that's what we've been doing from the outset.

Why else would we put him on the market when he has zero ability to walk to another team?

[Deleted] is just reporting things in a way that suits the narrative of his previous reporting.

If you've listened to Barrett discuss the football media, the one thing that frustrates him the most is being shut out of a football club and he is on record as saying he is currently persona non grata at two AFL clubs.

One of these clubs is obviously us so I tend to view his comments about the Bulldogs through the prism of his own frustration.

Jake's presenting himself very well.

If it's correct that the club is deciding to determine where stringer goes and playing hardball that's great.

If the club are going disregard stringers preference and negotiate with any club that wants him that's exactly what we should be doing. That doesn't mean we can make jake go there but we can turn around and say Geelong and Essendons offers aren't acceptable your choices are Collingwood or st Kilda who have the best offers or you stay is a great situation and it also makes Essendon and Geelong realise they can't low ball

We need a Captain like Rick Kennedy was, if you acted up like and didn't play the team line you got the crap beaten out of you as a lesson.
Doesn't have to be a leader.
Montgomery would accidently 'run through' any of the young guys that got a bit lippy at training.

All fair points

My view is the way we announced it so publicly, not have the coach be the one to deliver the news (apparently) has made it really hard for the club and player to reconcile should we get bad offers.

But as I said, if we can hold our nerve the pressure goes on the other clubs to make a deal or risk missing out on a star that doesn’t come up often for trade.

That’s how I hope we play it anyway. I’m liking the narrative that we want to determine where he goes, as we should

If that's what's happening, but we just won't know for another ... 17 or more likely 27 days. :drunk:

Also if Barrett thinks jake is going to which ever club he wants no matter the offer he is an even bigger idiot that I thought and has even less idea about the industry he works in

Ah, I think Jake holds the cards unfortunately. He is contracted to the Dogs for next year. He can only be traded to a club if he agrees to it. So the club would have to convince him to move to a club which he does not nominate.

The club should have keep this in house until trade week and then floated the options to clubs. Get a good deal done then sell it to Jake.
