And he is an All Australian wingman!I like Phillips for possible wing position but was thinking today we could put Macrae as permanent wing opposite Hunter and free up midfield spot for Dunkley to get more time. Only problem is both wingers would be left footers so as I typed realised probably won’t be ideal. Jacko has the size and courage to float back into defence and the tank to push forward like Lachie does.
There is about 15 clubs that lack good small forwards, I reckon it’s the hardest role for someone to play consistently.Enough depth small/medium forwards?
Cavarra is uncontracted, weightman showed he wasn’t ready yet, dale fair enough. But at the moment we play half backs (Richards, crozier) and inside mids (lipinski, Dunkley) as small forwards. We clearly lack small/medium forwards need best 22 ones and depth.
Agree that we need more outside mids with some speed and foot skills but not sure our depth there is too bad with vandermeer coming through, JJ used more up on a wing and Daniel can play on a wing too. I think we can cover outside mids but we can’t cover lack of small forwards because half backs just don’t have the same instincts around goal to be effective
Well I wouldn’t be playing preuss given he was tapping the ball to our players when opposed to DunkleyOnly if Bevo would consider playing them.
Very true and hence why I’m confused at all the talk of us needing a small forward as our priority. I believe we have enough potential within to fill that roll.Plenty of good players didn’t get a kick in their first year
It’s such a hard position to fill,it’s so hit or missVery true and hence why I’m confused at all the talk of us needing a small forward as our priority. I believe we have enough potential within to fill that roll.
I don’t necessarily disagree but a counter would be that potential is all they are and our window is opening now. Weightman also isn’t really a small pressure forward, at least not yet, his strengths are in his aerial ability. He plays very much like Jamie Elliott.Very true and hence why I’m confused at all the talk of us needing a small forward as our priority. I believe we have enough potential within to fill that roll.

It's true what they were asking for and true what we indicated.Pretty left field but Adam Cooney may be brought in by the Dogs to help facilitate a trade for Z Merret. Dodoro is asking for one of Macrae or Dunkley plus JJ. Dogs may be willing to part with JJ. plus a pick. Comes from a mate who is an Essendonian. Dunno if true.
From Toyd he's indicated the last year and a half, he's never going to touch the idea of playing in the AFL with a ten-foot-pole. Disappointing because he would've come in handy with our ruck situation but it wasn't meant to be.Wondering if the club has been keeping touch with Toyd.
Also Hamling, murmuring he is unhappy with his ankle rehab. not sure if his father is still in the land of the living but thought I’d remember seeing he’d passed. Appreciate he’s from WA but maybe a3-4 year contact back at the kennel would be something he’d consider.
I have it on good authority that Woodcock is sick of be jerked around and wants to pull out of all trade discussions.Woodcock filling a hole is just what we need, especially with our repeat forward entries when we are on top and just dominating games for no reward. At least we tend to sustain it and don’t just blow all our energy in the early part of games, that would be embarrassing.
Mihocek, Phillips & Scharenberg all a decent chance to leave. Varcoe, Reid retired. They’ll end up finding a way.If Collingwood are keeping Moore, Treloar and it appears clubs have called De Goey's bluff + now trying to obtain McDonald...
Then who the **** are they going to get rid of to ease there salary cap.
Have to be 3-4 mid tier players (minimum) going to have to be cut loose.
Since when is Lipinski and a 2nd rounder plus 3yrs x 500k “just about a free hit” ?I would be going for Tom McDonald as a defender. Something like brown to Dees McDonald to dogs lipinksi and 2nd rounder to north. He was nearly.adll australian defender 4 years ago. Could get him 3 years at 500k just about free hit for us
Its not that its a hard position to play, the person just needs to be fully committed to the position and thrive in making the opposition defence shit themselves. If anyone cant remember, have a look at Dahlhaus's first years as a Rookie. He didn't always kick goals, but what he did do is put on effort after effort to tackle an opponent when their defence had the ball. Thats what we need, someone who will kill themselves to keep the ball in the dangerous area, if they are in the right spot to crumb a couple of goals from dropped marks, thats all the more bonus. It’s such a hard position to fill,it’s so hit or miss
Because we need someone now. No one is suggesting Weightman won’t make it or that we shouldn’t persevere with him. He might turn out to be a star, or he might turn out to be a complete bust. But he needs time and we are good enough to challenge nowVery true and hence why I’m confused at all the talk of us needing a small forward as our priority. I believe we have enough potential within to fill that roll.
I personally Disagree
In my opinion Tim is not as far off as is widely suggested, he struggles with Centre Bounces, but excels in all other aspects as a Ruck position. He is particularly adept in aerial marking contests, and ground ball and link play.
I laughed so hard when I read that what a delusional club Essendon arePlease no Essendon players, reports that they asked Carlton for Walsh, McKay or Charlie curnow for saad. When that was turned down they asked for de konning and pick 7
It’s really a wonder how they have managed to attract players when they makes things so difficult to leave. Please no Essendon players, reports that they asked Carlton for Walsh, McKay or Charlie curnow for saad. When that was turned down they asked for de konning and pick 7
Point being we have enough of them on the list, even if we didn't think that they were good enough to get picked.
We don't have anywhere near enough outside type players as depth, best 22, any ranking on the list.
That's why I'd be playing VDM forward, not wing.We don’t have enough we had natural small/medium forwards on the list at the start of the year. Dickson (now retired) Lloyd (went backwards massively) dale (regressed from best 22 to depth) weightman (not ready) Cavarra (uncontracted) Greene (uncontracted) gowers (uncontracted). We likely only have 2-3 of those on the list next year meaning we need more.
Ideally you play 3 small/medium forwards, Wallis has made himself into one, that means we need weightman to take the next step quickly or dale to regain 2019 form and recruit some depth or we need to recruit best 22 small/medium forwards and depth.
As for outside mids our main one is hunter, we lack another quality winger although vandermeer may be able to fill that role. We have some unknowns on our list in butler, Garcia. Roarke and lachie young who are depth in that role based on this year (but both uncontracted) and Richards, JJ and Daniel who can play that role. We clearly lack a best 22 second winger and we lack another Bailey smith type mid with burst speed but the forwards are more of an issue.
It is easier to learn and play on a wing without it being natural that it is to learn to play small/medium forwards. Because you can’t learn goal nous you either know where the goals are or you don’t and atm the majority of our forwards struggle to find the goals.
With pretty much no meniscus left in one of his knees I'm a hard pass. His 2020 athleticism is what we'd get in 2021+I would be going for Tom McDonald as a defender. Something like brown to Dees McDonald to dogs lipinksi and 2nd rounder to north. He was nearly.adll australian defender 4 years ago. Could get him 3 years at 500k just about free hit for us
I'd value de Konning higher than Saad. Kid will be a star. Please no Essendon players, reports that they asked Carlton for Walsh, McKay or Charlie curnow for saad. When that was turned down they asked for de konning and pick 7
