Gold Coast have also back flipped on Broad.

We were rumoured to be interested weren't we??
We don't need him at all. If Wood was to retire it would be a good replacement but we've signed him for 2 years. Cordy & Crozier can play a similar role too.

If we're going to target a defender, it needs to be someone with size to replace Gardner.

I don't see us ever playing a true shutdown defender. I don't think I can recall Bev playing a key defender one out, man on man against any opponent.

From what I observed against St Kilda, Gardiner ended up being loose man pretty often and and almost became the primary distributor from half back (a role I really don't want him to play ever again).

Wood is also pretty injury prone. For the right price I'd take Broad. Probably allows us to push Caleb away from the danger zone and further up the ground.

Hell I would ask Fletcher Roberts to come back then to see that spud Gardner in the backline again!!! People think our ruck is a Massive weakness (which it is) but nothing compares to having that potato in the team!!

Keep an eye on us doing some business with Adelaide.
Their board seem to think they'll have our pick 12 by the end of trade period, with multiple picks coming our way.

If Adelaide give us pick 20 and 29 for 12 (plus don't nominate JUH), we should only need to add an additional pick 40 to get all the points required for him.

Could we get all of 20,29,44 for pick 12. Is that achievable?

Pick 12 = would cover a bid from pick 9 onwards with the discount.
Crows pick 20&29 = would cover a bid from 5 onwards with the discount.

Would 12 for 20&29 we fair and worth it for both parties tho..?

Remember that numerous academy picks will come in before 20 and 29, so the point value will drop quite a bit.

I imagine it would be whatever they get for Crouch - so end of first round compo + 20, or 20, 29 and second round compo.

The only thing that will effect those picks for us will be compo picks, with crouch, corr and Williams all likely to get compo before then. Acadamy picks don't impact us as jamarra will be the first one to attract a bid. It is likely after trade period those picks could be 22 and 32

Oh that's a good point, the picks will still be the same before we use the picks for bids - my bad. Thanks.

At any rate, 22 and 32-ish is only about a 200 point upgrade. I feel we could do better to be honest.

Will have to wait to see what compo picks will be and how the bigger trades wash out. May come down to the wire with us not trading out 12 until a bid comes in on draft night

Yep, agree that draft night is the time to do it.

One idea I quite like is to do a deal like that, and try to get a future pick (third or so) thrown in as well. So we get some point upgrades, plus an extra pick that isn't commuted as part of the bid. We're then free to shop that pick to try to get back into the current draft after the bid has been paid for, if we so choose.

So, for example:
1. Wait for bid
2. Trade 12 + minor pick for 20 + 29 (or whatever they end up being) + future pick
3. Use all 2020 picks to pay for JUH
4. Depending on how the draft plays out, trade acquired future pick for a current year pick

I like something like this a lot more than I do a straight downgrade for as many points as possible. It gives us a lot more flexibility.

Deffinetly possible if we like some one later in the draft like durdin ginnivan or callow. something we could do even if we did a trade pre draft, would be best result either way.

Adelaide not bidding on Marra is worth pick 37 on its own (ie the drop in points required to match pick 2 (assuming North then bid) instead of pick 1).

You'd imagine we'd have to add something to pick 12 to get the 2 second rounders and for them not to bid.

Would be pretty happy to stay out of this draft as much as we can. Of course obtain JUH and any other academy selection we see fit (Raak), but I'd like to load up with more 2021 picks as we can possibly access. Giving our recruiters a full look at the 2021 draftees.

Might be pretty difficult to grab a "slider" or a real elite talent outside the top 30.
