Nah I’m not buying that at all, Tim’s not stupid - there is one club in the league who would play Timmy as a lone ruck right now and that’s us. If he wants to be lone ruck then his only other option is for Claremont possibly.

If Timmy leaves I 100% believe it will because we have not supported him with another ruck and allowed him to be the best player he could be. If I was him I would be out the door ASAP

I highly highly doubt Timmy likes going out there week in week out getting butchered and if he actually thinks this is progressing his career then he’s a f*n idiot. He doesn’t have to be a utility he can still be a ruckman first & foremost but he needs a partner. There’s wanting to be first ruck and there’s wanting to ruck 95% of a game and I can guarantee you he doesn’t want the second option.

And either way it’s not an issue what he wants, couldn’t care less what he wants - we need to do what’s best for the team and if he’s not interested in doing that then I have literally zero care factor of him leaving

Timmy would not say NO to having support especially if his opposition ruck don't get a break with a Martin or Sweet bashing into them.

Tim would still be Number 1 ruck but having support will make him so much better and effective.

Seems simple but for some reason it is not happening. Maybe it is the rule "if it makes sense it wont happen"

And presuming that West Coast would be the obvious suitor, the way that their year looks to be heading, they may well have a top three draft pick.
That's worse if anything, because there's zero chance we're getting a top 3 pick for English, meaning we'd likely be offered an early 2nd

Agree. Watch the ruck contest immediately after English kicks his goal. He’s playing angry and pumped up and doesn’t give a fu** who he’s jumping against and absolutely pumps the ball out of the middle. It went to a Carlton player but only out of sheer chaotic luck.

Him playing with aggression and confidence creates an entirely new player. The bloke is 208cm and 115kg pretty comfortably. And could feasibly still put on 10kg of muscle without it affecting his mobility. He’s going to be huge.

He just needs a ruck partner that compliments him. Darcy is probably the prototype but is 3 years too young atm.

Exactly…
Loving what he’s shown so far this season - definitely heading in the right direction. His ground coverage is awesome. Often floating back and pulling down marks.
He’s got work to do in a few areas, but who doesn’t?

I wonder where we see Darcy developing. He could be embarked for that forward / second ruck role or as a key defender.

Still pissed that Adams left for Brisbane for more opportunities when all I remember is him been constantly injured the entire time on our list. Would be good just to have him in our backline, definitely have a lot of good players that are made to look worse because they lack the support.
Left when we were stinking up the joint in 2018, still took 2 years to get his body some what right. Almost back to the level he was in his first few games for us, but he could break down getting out of bed tomorrow.

The Tim English problem. We have put our eggs in the one basket this season and banked in him being a top ruckman. Us bigfooty experts that know nothing pleaded to recruit one this season but the club knows better. Martin as a mostly injured 34 was never going to cut it and Sweet struggles to beat reserves opponents.

Tim as a tap ruckman is as bad as I seen especially in the centre bounce. Around the ground with his athletic ability for his size he very good and could play as second ruck forward but the club and himself have different ideas. No doubt we beat the blues easy with a competitive ruckman and Pittonet is not even one of the better ruckman in the league

Therefore if WCE comes knocking and we can get a low first rounder for Tim I would not hesitate. We could pick up a quality small/midfielder in the draft and recruit someone a Xerri for a second or third rounder or while Sam Darcy develops.

Isaac Keeler from SA. Indigenous tall forward / ruck, would be the perfect partner for English. As he is a very dangerous forward but is just as capable in the ruck as well.

He has been liken to Paddy Ryder. Big leap.

English is absolutely worth a top three pick. He's close to being one of the best rucks in the comp. What most of you nuffs don't understand is that there's a very weak correlation between winning hitouts and winning clearances. What makes a ruckman good is how much they can impact the play outside of the hitout. English is starting to become as much of a marking presence as the top rucks with the bonus of having excellent footskills and being able to be involved in chains like a midfielder.

I looked at stats I think it was 1/4 time, hitouts to advantage were 9 nil the blues way anyone's language that is absolute thrashing and was one of the key reasons Cripps and Walsh were on fire. If we continue down the path hitouts do not matter we are in for a tough time. Nobody is disputing English is not talented but the first job of the ruckman is tapwork and Tim fails badly in this area. I am happy for him to play Luke Jackson role but we need a good tap ruckman as a first ruck, so if we could get a top 3 pick I would be all over it.

The thing about our lack of KPDs is we don’t even need them to be these unicorns like Weitering who are great at defending and rebounding. We have enough rebounders. We just need guys to can regularly defend, something Cordy and Gardner have failed to do consistently over their careers.

I can't say it often enough I get sick of them trailing off and their opponents marking the ball five metres in front of them. Get to the contest and compete.

Yeah 100%, how on earth do we struggle to find a player like this? Teams literally pull solid defenders from no where every year and we can’t buy one in years.

I guess actually recognising the problem and trying to recruit for it would be a good start but anyway

That’s true. We can only assume Bevo thinks Gardner and Cordy are good enough, otherwise surely it would have been addressed.

Nine goals their two key forwards kicked. That's the game.

I guess the thing that has hurt us is the KPD's leaving that would currently be in their primes. Hamling, Adams & Young (although he is shit). As others have said, I don't even want a gun KPD but just a respectable 2nd KPD that can handle good key fowards at a serviceable level. Even like a Josh Walker or James Stewart level would be enough for now.

Darcy Gardiner is a free agent this year. Immediate upgrade on Cordy right there. Alex Pearce is another free agent who would be an upgrade on Gardner. Both play for clubs with a good amount of KPD depth, and have no trade cost (assuming no matching)
