How would you go about this type of situation? How do you approach a gun who wants to stay to begin talks of potentially putting on trade table?

We would clearly need to be deep into chats with another player of need before any initial conversations can be had with an existing player.

Last thing we need is putting a player on table and then the trade falls through.

I understand the need for more power for clubs, but putting a happy player on the table can create all sorts of culture problems.

McStay prob the only relevant one there. I know very little about Richmond’s Miller except he’s a key defender but he could be one to look at.

I just know we will end up signing Ryan Lester.

Went to school with the Miller family (they're a bit younger than me). Ben in pre-primary was taller than the majority of kids in our primary school, and quicker too, it was wild. He's still stupidly quick despite being 200cm+. Comes from a great family background. I've liked what I've seen in his very limited games at Richmond, although honestly doubt they'd be letting him go

He’s an unrestricted free agent according to that list so they wouldn’t have any choice if someone could convince him.

Only ones I'd really look at is
Mcstay
Elliot
Gunstan
Possibly Naismith
A few have mentioned Miller, but I don't know anything about him.

Not much other than that.

I don't think it's money related, it would definitely be a flexibility situation. His partner is obviously in WA at the moment but the reality is that they might not know where their futures lie. Their priorities in 2 years time could be a lot different to where they sit now.

It wouldn't be too hard for the Dogs to give $50-60k to a Victorian netball team to lure his partner back over here on a long term contract, would be a good investment and probably cheaper in the long run trying to keep Tim here.

The club could always start a western Bulldogs netball team lol she can be captain

The Netball stuff is always funny to me, semi professional and the season runs 3 months but the media always run with it being a major factor in influencing where an AFL player will go ply their trade.
It’s ridiculous. Based on wages alone a couple would very likely have to prioritise the afl player to secure their future. That’s obviously based on popularity of each sport as well as gender, which is a different argument.
