Silly question that I’m hoping someone can clarify.

Say Treloar is on 900K over the next 5 years (round numbers).

We agree to take him with the agreement that Pies contribute 200K PA over the life of the contract.

Does the full 900K go into our salary cap and Collingwood contribute 200K financially to us, or is it 700K into our cap with 200K remaining in Collingwoods along with the 200K financial contribution?

Last year the media applauded Essendon for rejecting Sydney's first and future first for a cooked Daniher who was a year off free agency.

This year the dogs are being difficult for not accepting one first rounder for a 23 year old gun with 2 years on a contract who would still need to be traded at the end of those 2 years.

It worked out so well for Dayne Beams and Jack Steven, what could possibly go wrong.
Sorry, I wasn’t disagreeing with you, just clarifying your point of view. I wasn’t aware of the degree of his mental health.

I guess I’m interested in the link between his mental health and performance. If this has been going on for years and he’s been performing at All Australian level, do we think it must be a lot worse now?

If that’s the reason Collingwood is clearing him, that’s terrible on their part.

No the 200k is on Pies books

Probably the thing that really concerns me with Trelaor is he's apparently in the top 10 for both clangers and turnovers.. He's a great player and will improve our list, but if you take the emotion out of it and remove the rose coloured glasses of trade week, this is a concern and he needs to tidy this element of his game up as it could do us more harm than good....
He gets the most possessions in the league though, so he'll generally have higher numbers in those categories.
Better metrics to look at would be turnover or clanger rate... ie per disposal.

Looking at every player in the league that averaged 15+ disposals (160 players), Treloar sits 61/160 for turnover rate (18.2%) and 86/160 for clanger rate (14.1%).

He doesn't sit with the competition's best ball users but he's in a group where you'd expect most inside/outside midfielders to be.

He has better rates in these measures than Bont, Danger, Shuey, Petracca, Kennedy, Zorko, TKelly, Dusty.

We would only have 700k allocated to our cap. 200k would go in the pies cap.

Some1 please ring trade radio. Goddard saying pick 7 should get it done. So he thinks Dunkley and Saad are worth the same pick. Saad an out of contract HBF Dunkley a contracted inside mid that is 2 and a half years younger. I really don't understand some people.
I feel your frustration brother.

Keep in mind that these nuffs do not have any sway behind closed doors.

He is also 1 or 2 in possessions per game and contested possessions per game - you will naturally have more turnovers if you are getting the ball more than anyone else in the comp.

In a vacuum Treloar makes our team better - zero question on that. Some of the commentary in here about how much of a butcher he is and questioning work rate has me scratching my head. As a player he is almost exactly what out midfield is lacking (Josh Kelly would be a better fit but thats not happening).
But there is a risk in terms of salary and health, i back the club to make the right call either way

Nail. Head.

The Treloar potential trade is not sitting right for me because of his age verses contract length, his salary, his body (hamstrings), his pace, his kick and tbh his mental health (reaction to big losses combined with family being based in Queensland) but apart from all that, all good...

Really piss poor by Collingwood tbh. Hopefully we get a super motivated treloar

I reckon we’ll get a player determined to prove a point. Could have his best year ever.

By the way, amazing how many trolls...I mean ‘draftees’ are putting the slows on Treloar today. 🤔

Hypothetically the cap should increase as well over the coming years to cater for the contract
It may be reduced in coming years as the fallout from Covid continues. The soft cap has been cut, hence so many assistant coaches losing their roles. List sizes will also likely be reduced a little.

Seriously. Why does youse guys subject yourselves to Trade radio all day and then not take anything said on it seriously?
I appreciate it because it means I can see the funny parts but also don't have to listen. These people are heroes.

I can’t see Essendon giving up their 2021 first, given:

A) they’ll probably be sh*t
B) it’s supposed to be a great draft.

And I can only see them giving up 2 firsts if they get something decent back (ie a pick in the 20s).

We can easily flip one of the firsts for the pies 2021 first. But what to do with the other one?
Like somebody mentioned here prior. Could be their 7 and 8, if they get 8. For Josh and one of our 2nd rounds we would get when we split 14 with the Crows.
