2 excellent reasons for why Stef Martin makes sense.

Would you prefer him or Brad Lynch/Billy Gowers as the 38th player on our list when potentially competing for a flag over the next year or two, given English's current deficiencies?
I would prefer a player that is not Billy Gowers, Brad Lynch or Stefan Martin occupying that spot.

I mentioned Preuss earlier, a guy who has clearly shown he's a decent ruck not on his last legs. Why not him?

He will play games and in all likelihood make us a better team when he does.
I'll conceded that, simply because the bar is so low. Thanks Luke.

Naturally at that age he is past his prime but he can still be a solid contributor. Like Roughead was in 2016 when they won a flag.
They?
Roughead was 26, not 34. How many teams have won a flag with a 34 year old ruckman?

I love that Goddard thinks we must be committed to trading Dunkley if we are getting Treloar in for a medical :D

He's obviously never heard of the term "diligence"

I requested a building inspection on a house I looked at. Goddard thinks that means I must be offering massive overs for it.

Good logic.

Pruess wouldn't come anywhere near as cheap as Martin (as we've seen in the trades that have gone through - pick 31 vs Lachie Young, plus salary difference) and, in my opinion, is not as good as a 34 year old Stef Martin currently is. Not to mention the added value Martin brings in teachings for English.

We aren't looking for a long term solution, if we were he would have been a good option.

Pick 7 and swap next years 1st for dunks would be better then pick 7 and a mid round pick this or next year I would imagine.

Dunkley Saad swap?

Where would he play ?? Or where would Crozier, Daniel, Richards, Wood, Duryea, Butler, Williams play ??

He's better than some on that list, but he's not a need and we'd have to reshuffle too many things. We need to start structuring correctly, not fiddling around more to have 27 HBF'ers.....

People laughed at StKilda for trading in 32yo and apparently cooked Ruckman Patrick Ryder last year. He did much better than most expected.

I look at Martin coming in as a Coach first, the fact that he can still play is an absolute bonus.

If you'd said we would trade out Gia for Martin in the coaching ranks id take that in a heartbeat.
You'd want to bring in someone who's never coached over a bloke that got voted the best assistant?

Gee whiz, there's still some that hold on to grudges they had against Gia as a player.

I'm all for Martin as a player/mentor by the way.

Ask any Brisbane supporter and they will tell you Martin was nowhere near his best all year. He's clearly on the decline, which is why Brisbane than happy to cut him.
We have a list that should be good enough to contend for flags, why should we be feeding off other teams 34 year old scraps? Just because Tim English still struggles badly doesn't mean to should be bringing in a 34 year old.

His pensioner card?
Hawthorn got a broken down Brian Lake for a bag of Chicken Twisties and it worked out alright for them

Assistant of the year is voted by players and staff it has absolutely zero to do with competence and is more a popularity contest.

Gia was a peaheart footy player, I couldn’t stand him but that has no bearing on his ability to take nearly every line he touched backwards including being “moved” assignments half way through 17 because he made such a mess.

Him going is the biggest positive so far in this off season by a mile

Sorry, I was under the impression we were a club with a modicum of ambition, that chased players who helped us win flags, not a club that picks up old farts from the lost property bin. My mistake.

They got Brian Lake at the age of 30, and showed him the door at 33.
Stefan Martin is already 34.

Bombers will have to accept less for Fantasia to give back to Carlton in the deal.

If they dig their heels in on Orazio there is zero chance it gets done.

Maybe... Except Ryder was 32, Martin is 34...
