Yeah the fact we welcomed him back 2 years ago after he blindsided the club, just for him to use every club in the league as leverage in negotiations trying to pinch every cent from us - whilst his teammates take less than market value to help build a successful team - doesn’t exactly sit well with me to be honest.
i just hope we dont overpay for Dunkley, very good player but has limitations

His form???
Were you at the game on Saturday?
He basically kept us in the game and was one of the few with energy who looked like they gave a crap...

Might have something to do with contract negotiations.

Happens to every player sniffing out a few extra dollars.

I wonder how different things would be if he didn’t get a flag in his debut year, he obviously wants to chase the cash and do absolutely **** all once he retires. His Insta is like following an ad account.

Good luck to him if he goes, he’ll always be a Bullgod but just don’t **** us over by limiting your worth

Back to fantasy land:
  • Eagles and Barras renegotiate his contract to 1 year deal ending this year and then he becomes a free agent
  • We throw a big contract at Barrass so they get band 1 compensation (pick #3)
  • Completely unrelated we trade pick #9 + pick #27 for Liam Duggan (Western Jets boy, solves our medium defender gap)
  • Again, completely unrelated WCE pick up a chunk of Duggan's contract which we use to fund the Barrass contract
Essentially we trade our first and second rounders for Barrass and Duggan. Eagles trade Barrass and Duggan for 2 firsts (including a top 3) and a second.

Make it happen Sammy Power. Sure its against a bunch of rules but no worse than the Hogan and Viney fiasco that went unpunished.

I’ve never been on the "Send Naughton back" bandwagon but I think we should seriously consider it if we do get Barrass and Lobb.

Starting defence: Barrass, Keath and Naughton. Depth: Gardner, Darcy, Cordy, Buku, O’Brien

Starting forwards: Bruce, JUH and Lobb (w/ English rotating). Depth: Darcy, Schache(?), O’Brien, Cordy, Buku

Still has flexibility with Naughton, Darcy, TOB, Buku and Cordy able to swing when needed. Main thing is that main three defence would really open up Naughton and Keaths ability to intercept

Darcy over Bruce send Naughton forward and Gards is better then Keath now

I'm sure the AFL would love that just after we snared JUH & Darcy in successive years.

We don’t need to add the additional trade for Liam Duggan. Eagles should be happy with pick 2/3 and any further trade that is that lopsided isn’t required.

It isn’t actually a bad idea, hope WC likes the creativity.

Additional:
Sorry, forgot I was thread banned. I will try and remember next time.

Hope Sammy power is speaking to Willie Riolis manager.
My source sent me a clip of the meeting

Players and clubs are stupid to not structure the long term deals as 1 year plus a series of options that either party can trigger.

Barrass is a scenario where everyone might prefer that it was a shorter term deal.

I like the theory but it has some Greenwood risk attached to it whereby Barrass could just sign anywhere when he becomes a free agent

West Coast won’t care. He’ll be restricted presumably in the top 25% of earners so WCE can match if he wants to go somewhere else for less.

Or they could negotiate it to a 1 year deal with options in the clubs favour so he can’t screw them over somehow.

Yeah I was more-so thinking risky for our end if other clubs became interested suddenly due to him not requiring a trade

Wasn't Josh Kelly's deal something like that?
Something like 2 years + a 5 year trigger clause. It was pretty unique

When did this Barrass talk start?
He's sold his house in Perth, wife been recruited by Melbourne Vixens, they've bought a house in Seddon, has nominated us - also told the media he just wants us to get him here. Is happy to take a pay cut to break his WCE contract and sign for less with us because his family and the McCombs go back years. Also has been secretly in awe of Ryan Gardner, and his defensive spoils.

Not really.

cleveland said a few pages back that he'd heard some inside info that we were having a decent dip at trying to get him.

Yes exactly. Maybe Kelly's manager pushed the boat out too far and clubs are scared.

English signed a 2 year extension earlier this year taking him to free agency but I wondered at the time if his manager would push for a 2 year + [3] year option deal instead. It would allow him to explore free agency in 2 years but also give extra 3 years of financial security. Maybe he did ask and the Dogs said they would only do it but for less $ per year ("pricing" the option) and there would need to be # of games played triggers and he preferred the simple deal.

Very funny.

English needs to knuckle down and get his ruck work to an acceptable level if he wants to be first ruck. If he doesn’t, we may need to change the list plan and put him in the tall forward category. That makes Lobb superfluous and Sweet a must keep.

A lot depends on English making it as a first ruck given the list decisions we appear to be making.

The Brisbane link is probably Pickering looking out for more money than anything Dunkley is doing. Pickering is the one doing all the talks with other clubs and it's probably less to do with dunks wanting to go where his gf or sister maybe playing next season.
