It hasn't worked because we have weak leaders.
And it will continue to happen until we have strong ones.

Bingo

Hunter is the symptom not the disease.
Cutting Hunter is akin to cutting Stringer,

I have a real issue with the way Toyd was managed by the club which, I believe, had a huge impact on his decision to quit the game. With a stronger club leadership structure he could have stuck around and ended up being a dominant forward/ruck. Missed opportunity there, IMO, looking back to how Stringer & Dahlhaus were not told to pull their heads in.

Ive thought there was a lot more to the Hunter situation than the previous drink driving charge, this club suffers from the old problems of lack of club leadership which saw it implode after the 54 flag. Same thing is happening again IMO, just in different ways.

JJ hasn't been even half the player since he was moved out of the backline in 2017-18. If we could move Dale to a wing, and have a JJ resurgence off the half back to rebound, that would be a lethal combo. Some of my most memorable plays are JJ rebounds (2016 Prelim to the Bont goal, 2016 game vs St Kilda where he steals the ball and delivers to Stringer)
The problem with JJ was that he was so good he got a regular heavy tag and never found a way to shake it.

For that reason I'm not sure he'll ever be a regular back flanker again.

The Hunter stuff in the media is all about him exploring options rather than the club forcing him out.
Have heard nothing from the club about wanting to move him on.
The circumstances are eerily similar to Stringer back in 2017 so I am open minded. I think Sammy P would have handled the Stringer trade much more in house and professional.

I have been told that the club has not talked to or discussed Tomlinson and he definitely did not do a medical with us.

Have also asked about Magden but yet to hear back.

Wishful thinking: It’d be huge for us if a couple of hard running and tidy kicking 190cm+ wingmen in Parker and Bedendo really came on next year. If they were able to fulfil their potential and push smaller, slower and less skilled players like Hunter, McComb, Scott and Roarke out of our midfield it would help balance our mix immensely.

Not sure if already put in here, Brendon Lade reported to be new assistant coach

I really liked what I saw in Parker. Thought he looked like he had some serious wheels and had a real go.

Saying that, when your cut down by injury as a rookie and your without a contract it’s looking pretty grim for him to get a new deal.

We've wasted drafts/trades over the last 5 years on a number of players that couldnt deliver or were not played to their strengths.
I agree we have had players not played to their strengths but that falls on the coaches rather than recruitment.

I really don’t think our drafting has been bad at all the last 5 years. We have very little draft picks and still found players that the club would be bullish on with late picks in Cleary, Bendendo and Garcia.

Potentially list turn over hasn’t been high enough, but covid hasn’t made it easy for recruiters to hit the draft with 5 + picks.

I’m still holding out hope that someone overpays for Hunter and we get an extra 2nd rounder, like that we’ve learnt our lesson and seem to be playing it much better than we did with Jake
Suspect we're far more likely to accept significant unders for him just to get a part of his salary off the books.

Edmund 100% reads this forum 😂😂
To be fair to Edmund, he does say he is sometimes passing on rumours from emails and tweets. Some of those people probably post on BF.

Good on him really. Some people are full on into this, too the point they fantasise they are actually list managers. He’s giving sections of the public their 15 seconds of fame.

Best trade thread though is the Luke Jackson one. People on there really really do think they are list managers. That page is a big wow.
