Demons fans think he can also play on the wing. A mature bodied, still young, inside outside mid? Yes please. Scott's done well to make himself a best 22 player but turns 29 before next season starts.
Always been a fan of Jordon's.

Kai Lohmann would suit Anthony Scott's role to a tee.

Lobb was absolutely worth it, he's getting better each week, hasn't reached his peek with us yet will be very important come the end of the season
Getting Lobb was so that Darcy has time to develop his body/game. We can probably add Croft to the list that this will help, I guess.

Similar to when we got Stephen Martin

I don’t mind Lobb, he plays the role much better than his predecessors Cordy, Young, Schache and Dunkley.

But if we’re genuinely recruiting guys (ToB, Lobb) because they happen to tear us up that’s a huge concern. That in itself is not hard to do. We may as well sign up Majak Daw and Jake Carlisle while we’re at it.

John Butcher likes this.
Lobb had a large body of work behind him so I doubt 1-2 games decided our trade. We've got people at the club watching every game

You'd hope with Lobb, we chased him based on more than one game against us.
But your honour, as a precedent, I present, Tim O'Brien....

Lucky Bevo (and Sam P!) weren't around when Majak Daw had a day out, or some random small forward peaking their career against us in years gone by.

The quintessential example being Marty McGrath from Richmond, who booted five goals against us. He finished with six goals for his career...and only played four AFL games!

I still dont understand the debate about Lobbs value to the side.

Except for the outlier of last season where he was played as pretty much Freos sole forward. An issue that we dont have. He's on track to have a season in line with most of these that preceded it.

When the game was there to be won half way through the last. He was rucking against Treacy we cleared the ball straight out of the middle for goals to Weightman and Naughton, from that point the game we effectively over. His job is to give English some relief, take on the opposition second string rucks and make himself a target forward. Even if he's playing the dummy role or having his leads ignored which they regularly are. If English is to be named the AA ruckman this year then the arrival of Lobb is going to be a significant factor in that coming to pass.

Ive said it before. Lobb is what he is and he's doing his job.

Pretty much this. Also I know there was reports about players being salty with him for the cash he is on, I think that's BS. Since day 1 they have always got around him.

Rory's ruck work on the weekend was real good. Granted he went up against an undersized forward (Treacy) most of the time but we didn't lose anything when Timmy went off.
Looked like we won all the centre clearances he was ruck in the last quarter. Was the moment we really got on top, which is the opposite of what usually happened when English goes off.

I don’t know. I haven’t seen Dunkley or Buku or heaven forbid Bont take a ruck contest this year when Chilli takes a break. He is good for a bit over a goal a game, and is one of the few who doesn’t give me kittens when lining up for a shot.
He’s not the messiah and could certainly be stronger overhead particularly in the down the line bail out kicks, but I reckon he is doing exactly what he was recruited for.
Oh, I wasn't saying I don't agree with Lobb being recruited, just a bit of sarcasm.

I prefer Lobb playing backup ruck/forward to pretty much everyone else in recent years, even end-of-career Steph Martin.

A question for those who are against Lobb, who would be our second ruck right now?

Bont? Macrae? Buku? Naughton? Marra? Keath? Bruce?
Would be happy with Bruce doing 10 minute stints in the ruck if he got back to his goal kicking forward self of 2021

I remember that game well.

Matthew Richardson, Ben Holland and Kane Johnson all killed us. I recall hearing a stat at the time that Kane Johnson broke the record for the most inside 50s in a single match against the Bulldogs. I'm not sure if it's still a record.

Our forward line has gone past him he isn’t getting a game in front of Jamarra, Naughton, Lobb or Darcy for that matter.

He isn’t even in our best 3 tall defenders, then again that is a valid attempt to extend his career and give us options which we may still need later in year.

I don’t think Bruce will be on our list next year unfortunately but Lobb is still contracted to 2025.

I think Bruce has something to offer next year as depth. It’s the mental side of the game that he needs to improve IMO.

We have very young and very old key position players. We need to be phasing them out and not cutting all at once.

I don't think Bruce will want to be seen as a depth player i think he'll see the writings on the wall and request a trade to somewhere like Melbourne

I know big bags of goals would be nice, but where Lobb is making the biggest difference for us is here:

Lobb v Darcy (6 contests)
Hitouts: 4 / 1
To Advantage: 1 / 0
Clearances: 4 / 1
Score: 2.1 (13) / 0.0 (0)

Lobb v Tracy (16 contests)
Hitouts: 8 / 6
To Advantage: 1 / 2
Clearances: 5 / 5
Score: 1.0 (6) / 0.0 (0)

We actually won the ruck and clearance contest comprehensively when our backup went against an elite opposition ruck. We just didn’t have that the last couple years.

As an example, in the final last year Sam Darcy was soundly (as you’d expect) beaten by Darcy & Lobb:

Darcy vs. Darcy (2 contests)
Hitouts: 0 / 2
To Advantage: 0 / 0
Clearances: 0 / 2
Score: 0.0 (0) / 0.0 (0)

Darcy vs. Lobb (8 contests)
Hitouts: 2 / 5
To Advantage: 0 / 1
Clearances: 2 / 4
Score: 0.0 (0) / 1.1 (7)

I suspect going back to look at the numbers from Cordy’s 8-week run as forward/ruck from last year, and the other stop gaps we used, would even more clearly illustrate how this move has closed a pretty glaring weakness.

*Cheers as always to Oliver Gigacz for the numbers.
