Yeah I get people are frustrated cause they want news and something to discuss but we've missed out on no one of note, definitely not the worst year to have a quiet trade period.
Yep,

If anyone wants to see how shite it is go look on the trade section of the main board it is full of duds

I'd much rather get no one then get Mckay for the ridiculous contract he's getting or Zac Fisher on a 5 year deal.

Fisher on a 5 year deal won't be a lot of coin
For a team that lacks speed like us, it's a good pick up for North

What you need is astute trade selections whether the wider football community considers them duds or not.

Some see players as duds but in a system they can be real finds

McStay many thought was a dud, Markov was seen by the majority as a dud and there are other examples

Billy Frampton is another one seen as a dud and could be playing in the Grand Final

We brought in Baker and Poulter last year and looked at Lohmann and Coffield this year,

Picking up 5 of them on longer term contracts isn't good

Sam Edmund Reported this earlier today

Buku Khamis (Western Bulldogs)

Is he going to North Melbourne?

“Buku Khamis, I think that’s turned.

“He might have been won back over by the Dogs to stay.”
Poor guy.

Unless they've convinced him that he'll be trained as a defender with his sights set on that 3rd defender role alongside Jones & O'Donnell. He's certainly not getting a game as a forward aside from an injury crisis.

Naughton and Marra are great mates they are going nowhere
Like Dunkley and Bont were best mates...

Naughton and Marra will get plenty of cash to stay though.

There's a reason we're not linked to any big fish this year. We're prioritizing the draft and retention. I'm glad we are, rather than chasing fringe players from other teams on big deals.

Next year I suspect he slips one further back in the pecking order as Sam Darcy gets another pre-season under his belt

Problem is we seem to be doing sweet stuff all about the club's administration issues.

Getting more budget assistant coaches is going to down like a lead balloon.

We haven't announced anything about replacements yet. It's not time to panic. If we start pre-season training with an assistant coaching vacancy, then I'd worry.

I hope Buku is still looking around even if the club have convinced him to stay

There's not many of the decent assistants left. They are being picked off one by one.

We have the largest number of vacancies. I'd be surprised if most aren't filled internally.

Dew was apparently after too much money as well

Agree

Putting aside the fact he could play in a GF due to an injury to McStay he has helped a team and played his role to get them to finish on top of the ladder

Our lot a too disorganised and above all confused to be able to carry out trades that help fill a role.

Confusion reigns at the Kennel

if Buku is happy to stay with us and play 1 game a year (if lucky), I’m happy to have him.

Would be a puzzling move for his career beyond that contract though. Unless we have something else planned for him.

Surely one of the inherent flaws in the free agency construct is that it costs the “destination club” nothing

If Essendon were to lose their first round pick as a result of Norf gaining one for McKay then it might make them think twice about throwing lavish money at him

It’s still free agency in the sense the player can walk - but it evens out the considerations for all concerned

You could just send the lost pick to the club the player is leaving and be done with it also. Not ideal but less random than the current outcome which is a function solely of where the transferring club sits (McKay vs Buddy scenarios)

I agree that clubs should have to give up something for signing a free agent and clubs should also get something for losing a free agent but it needs to be fixed and not tied to ladder position in anyway or it will always be imbalanced and lead to manipulation.

I think the tiers of free agency should award a set compensation draft pick say - tier one - mid first round, tier 2 end of first round etc and the team signing the free agent then needs to match a set number of points per tier like teams do for NGA or father son bids.

The salary tiers should be clear to all clubs and based on total contract value so clubs know exactly what compensation they will receive for letting players go and what they need to give up for taking players on.

Or make him 1st ruck in the VFL haha, most likely with Crozier going and TOB gone he might get a look in as a defender?
