Why he has locked in $8m plus of income and set himself up for life.

As opposed to ? What another $1m with half taken in tax ?

He could also do knee next year and be worth less on market
Exactly right. The way he plays locking in a long term deal as early as possible is a good choice. Now he just needs to lose the head band.

Apparently we are in for a fire sale and they'll just get Marra now
Afl supporters and media are so reactionary lol. They all think we are Essendope 2013 level of shitness for some reason. We had one bad year.

I’m as frustrated as anyone, and I’ve overreacted at times but to think that all our players want out is stupid.

A lot of players finish up at 31-32. Might be his last contract!

Still can’t work out how to feel about it. I was told he’s viewed as a potential captain internally so that probably factors.

I get why he’d do it with the way he plays and how banged up he might be in 5-6 years. But I also get why the club would - he’s a legit star and it’s a great endorsement for the club.

I think it’s inevitable he’ll succeed Bont as captain.

Even if Bev turns it around he’ll be gone by then. If he’s slowing down he could return to the backline and play the McGovern/May role for a little while.

Who in their right mind would sign up for 8 more years of Bevo?
All jokes aside, I’ve consistently heard from people who have worked at the club (including ex players) that the place is generally a joy to be at.

The catastrophists will always be on here and we do occasionally lose one we want to keep, but I think we will generally do well with retention.

Have you seen the state of contract lengths around the league this season? This is the new normal.
My concern with these type of deals, is that if Naughton goes to s**t form wise, and plays like a 500k player the last few years, we are stuck with paying him a million a year no matter what. Never been a fan of deals beyond 5 years myself personally.

Was at the railway hotel in Yarravlle after the reserves final and most players came in including Lobb. He genuinely looked like he was getting on well with everyone. Also plays regular golf with other players as well. Hardly a lepper.
Believe he was also one of the players who went to watch the first VFL final post season.

Happy he resigned but out of the 4, he was the one I was going to be least sad about losing, especially if he is going to keep playing forward. I dislike the length though. Would of much preferred 5 years.
