Regardless of how the next 12 months plays out, Lobb was an excellent, shrewd target for a team that had consistently lacked a second ruck, and who only had an 18 year old injury-prone player in that position on the list. He has played 23 games for us in 1.5 seasons and I shudder at the thought of who would have been there without him.

I'm consistently shocked by the vitriol he receives as a solid if unspectacular role player.
Agreed

no regrets GIF

And there's always give and take. The somewhat lengthy contract and draft capital outlay is balanced by the relatively minimal contract that we're giving him, which is in turn why so many other clubs are demanding him - they won't have to pay him more money and have him take up room in the salary cap than what he's already on.

One of the biggest issue re Lobb

our game style didn't suit him at all

he was flying at Freo when they played fast footy

No news on Bailey Smith from my last update.
West on 3 looking promising
Garcia also working through a 3 year
Gags and Buku early stages of new contract offers, might be 2 for Gags and 1 for Buku but I haven’t been told years for those blokes.
Clarke and Bramble most likely to be offered another year but early days.

Clubs very keen to keep Buss but no news since we’ve put a contract to him.

English is looking to settle for 4 around the 900 mark, and before anyone says anything, I’m told concussion clauses are now becoming common place in contracts.
What was you last update on Bailey Smith? I’m told he is gonski…
West and Garcia I’m wrapped with. Both 23 so in their 5th season. Patience is important with young guys. Most were calling for both to be delisted.

Bramble 1 yr seems harsh after playing every game.
Clarke also. Had one pre season VFL form very good and cracked it for a senior game and although he was a bit over awed it’s happened to a lot of very good players.
If Arty got two yrs Clarke should also. He has come along way from last season.
As for Buss I’m not sure but I hope he stays as him Croft could form a great key defensive duo.

The frustrating part about potentially losing Baz would be the lack of replacement from other clubs. The decent outside mids that could be on offer like LDU, McLuggage are getting stupid 1.2+ mil deals which they are clearly not worth, but will get it from shit performing clubs that have the cap space for the next few years. Let’s hope guys like West, Garcia etc can really step up in the midfield in the coming years.

Bramble one year is absolutely fine, no one would he lining up offering him more than that. Power hopefully learnt his lesson after giving out unnecessary 2 year deals to Poulter and Baker.

Need. To. Keep. Buss.

I don’t care if we offer him overs, with Lobb and Baz almost certainly leaving it’s worth the gamble to pay him a bit extra.

Jones will be pushing 40 soon and Keath is probably in his last year. Buss and JOD are our Lever and May for years to come.

me one year younger than Jones

Please don't drop the pushing 40 soon line hahaha
I got enough gray hair

I think its been a brilliant trade and the timing for him wanting out couldn't be better:

1.We hold every card.
2. He's under a multi year contract.
3. He has tangible value still so we should at least get a decent 2nd rounder.
4. His manager can't do squat except complain to the media if we decide not to draft him.
5. He's providing great coverage for Darcy/Croft as you point out.
6. He loves front ended deal so he's effectively in a "Lobb contract year" looking for the next big front end payout.

It's been a fabulous trade and we would expect to get some residual value.

As long as we can find the right buyer I think this is the biggest win - win player acquisition from both Lobb and our club. Hope he plays well and gets his manager hunting for a big front end payday from Melb so we can get some value.
I'd prefer to trade him to a team that can't hurt us so not Melbourne or the Pies.

Norf or the Saints would be a good fit. Better draft picks in the mix for the trade and Lobby can get regular senior games on good coin but not pose any threat.

Win win.

Aka Bailey Smith is gone and Dogs don't want to deal with the media talk about it

Isn't it great then that he's doing all the rehab with us, just milking the club for all it's worth, providing no value at all for the rest of the year and then he'll hit the road in search of brighter lights.

Good stuff. Class. 🙄

You've gone a bit early, DR.

We don't actually know the full story, do we?

Can't convict a bloke on hearsay.

I think we will have a Spine of the below in the coming years.. I'm officially moist....

Norty
JUH
Darcy
Croft ( I hope a chip off the old block, one of my favourite ever defenders )
Buss

Build a team around that with some Blue Chip Speed and Grunt.. Look out...

We owe him that. He hurt it in service to us.

The club needs to be seen as a solid citizen and a good prospective work place to the wider afl community.
Not suggesting what they’re doing isn’t right.

Going above and beyond what a club would normally do, to then have the player request a trade is a terrible look.

No, but I feel like it is taking the p155 to be honest. Plenty of time for that sort of stuff post season.

Take a break from the club, sure, but just think it's a bad look, that's all. But who am I to judge?

Players with long term injuries tend to do that occasionally.

Nathan Brown went to the US when he did that fibia/tibia injury and I think De Goey went somewhere when he was out for a while. Not sure that we can take much out of it, really.

Ripping into the bloke on what is really just media talk at the moment is a bit premature, IMO.

Do players ever read our musings, I wonder...? :worried:
