The point is that he's a nice solid player but probably doesn't make us a better side in 2024. He works at Collingwood because they're full of pacey smalls and can afford to carry a slower skilled type.

There's also an argument to suggest he hasn't really improved as a player. He's more or less the same guy we played in 2019 & 2020, just gets more consistent games now.
Spot on he gets a game at Collingwood because they have an undersized forwardline and can play him there no issues,

With us it would be against Macrae/Sanders/Treloar/Libba/Bont ect

Some people can't accept that Libba has grown and changed significantly as a person through his 20's and early 30's, which is clearly possible, especially after you become a father.
Not just clearly possible. It's the normal trajectory for errant youth.

I should know.

Sonny is pretty quick yeah? And loves to tackle?

People keep asking who he’d replace - surely he’d offer the same pressure inside 50 as McNeil and VDM?

I struggle to work out how VDM and McNeil getting 5-10 touches and laying 1-2 tackles a game is more important to the side? They also very rarely even hit the scoreboard. I get the whole “there’s no room in the midfield for him” - but are our small forwards really offering enough??

Baker played 18 games in 23 that is not depth
Scott 22 games in 23 that is not depth

Lipinski ahead of the above two anytime any year any position
Depends what your needs are. We play Baker for pace which we continue to invest in. Lipinski was contending for a place behind other one-paced mids who were more mature or simply better. Baker is probably only just outside the 23 now on the basis of his pace. Lipinski doesn't have pace. What he has is great disposal, good vision and decision making. Reasonable size too. That happens to suit the Collingwood mix a tad better than ours.

Scott is more a versatile utility. He is certainly harder at the contest than Lipinski.

Lipinski is undoubtedly the best of the three but it's not exactly comparing apples with apples.

So he'd get a game over a guy whos played 3 games this year 1 of which was sub,

Thats the point he'd be exactly the same as what he was when he left

Mate you’re the one who asked who he’d replace, how could he replace someone that isn’t in the side? That’s why I said Poulter.

You point is less arguable if you expand it to all year when Gallagher, Poulter, Sanders, Daniel, Baker, McNeil, Scott and Clarke have played 60 odd games between them. He’d play every week for us. Daniel alone has played 10 nothing games for us this year, they’d all have been better going to Lipinski.

Macrae has been playing half forward all year for 3 goals and 5 goal assists and 2.5 tackles and clearances a week. Fantistic midfielder at his peak, but as a half forward he’s not as effective as Lipinski. It’s sad but true.

Lipinski is in interesting player, looks a million bucks when his team is flying (like a lot of guys) but he has had a real poor season for mine. Still think he should have focused on being a medium forward as he has exceptional touch and finishing ability but I guess that lack of pressure and intensity means he can't be as effective there.

If your going off Poulters game last week then you wouldn't

He wouldn't play each week for us and would be in the same boat that he was when he left a slow somewhat soft but skillful player which doesn't fit our needs given or top end talls and mids

The “too slow to play in our team” angle doesn’t carry any water for me at all when we have multiple players that are either slower or no faster playing every week. Lipinski has 25 goals/goal assists to Macrae’s 8. And more tackles. Daniel has played 10 games. It is what it is, if you believe that about him but not about the players we’ve been selecting then so be it.

Not sure why everyone is talking about Lipinski. He’s a fine player. Would our season be better if we kept him? Highly unlikely no, I haven’t come away from any loss this year and thought we would’ve won if we had Lipinski

No one player bar maybe Bont individually impacts our results in any meaningful way, and even then it’s only arguable. We beat second place last week without Treloar, Naughton and Jones. So its probably meaningless to say about a role player like Lipinski.

I know nothing but Smith looks 100% disconnected from the club and he is moving on next season. Lucky Richards is probably an upgrade because he uses the ball better. I hope we get a pick inside 10 and pick up a gun quick midfielder.

I hate Dunkley and Smith for their moves after what the club has done for both. A flag for Dunkley in his first season a GF for Smith, supported him through mental problems and an ACL. Unfortunately, it is the way of the world and there is nothing a smaller club like the dogs can do about it other than get the best deal we can. We have been low balled for Stringer and Dunkley just hope it does not happen again.

Strange post.

The first sentence isn’t even accurate. You then proceed to say you hate someone for something that hasn’t even happened yet.

Smith doesn't look disconnected at all. Goes to every game and does rehab with the team. Even watched the games in Europe.

The whole Baz situation feels very similar to Dunkley. Looks gone, a little optimism mid year that he might stay although nothing definitive said publicly, but ultimately takes the coin (or land and a new Ranger if its Geelong). He knows where he sits in the pecking order here and is being offered more $$$ and years elsewhere, think he goes.
