Wait until the Saints get more for Josh Battle than we get for Bailey Smith
Not possible because Bailey is not a free agent. If Geelong, Collingwood or Hawthorn want him they’ll have to trade. Or he’ll go to the draft, and there is a snow flakes chance in hell he’ll want to go to Richmond or North.

I spoke with Josh Battle’s dad in round 1 Cats v Saints at GMHBA Stadium. He was wearing Saints merchandise but told me he was a 39 year Hawthorn member and went to every Grand Final they were in. Josh grew up a mad Hawk, he was always going there.

Huh? It's very possible we will get less for losing Bailey than the Saints do for losing Battle.

Battle will likely be band 1 comp so pick 6/7 whatever it is around there for the Saints.

Bailey will likely nominate Geelong and after posturing we will accept their first (pick 15-18 ish) plus a sweetener like a F2 or something. We'll absolutely talk tough and drag it out, but he won't be going into the PSD and will make his way to the club he nominates for less than he is worth.

Near the top of the Dillon/Kane agenda needs to be fixing the compo issue, not wildcard round or some other shitty initiative to let them continue making the game worse.

I don’t really want to live in a world where Ben McKay & Josh Battle are worth the “compensation” of a high top 10 draft pick.

The most ridiculous aspect of free agency is the compo given basically penalises everyone except those involved in the trade. One team gets the player, the other a compo pick, whilst the rest slide back an extra position in the draft. It’s a deeply flawed system

Why? We got Alex Keath and Josh Bruce exactly when we needed them. I imagine there's a lot of other enquiries that happen that we never hear about, for all clubs.

I like Barrass, not entirely sure on Battle, I would've loved Barrass to pick us but it's not the end of the world.
Barrass would have been nice but for 5 yrs - madness

Apart from Lewis they have been quite healthy this year.

How about you wait to see how they go with some injuries and after the competition has had a pre season to work on their game plan because you know it will happen. If they navigate that successfully then of course they're the real deal.

Simply saying they're young and have added Battle and Barrass (who still might not be traded because he's contracted) doesn't necessarily equate to anything. The dogs were young in 2017 coming off a premiership. They missed the finals the next year.
Remember the baby Bombers. Were meant to dominate for years….how many days again since they’ve won a final - delicious!!!

I would push for this years and next years firsts, swapping back our 3rd this year and 2nd next year.

If we get a sh*t offer, we should let him walk to the PSD and laugh at him. Richmond are going to have cash to burn, they would take him in a heartbeat. I’d rather he walk than get screwed by Geelong who is a legitimate competitor we will directly be making better.

Bevo and Chris Scott sitting next to each other at the awards night. What are the chances they discuss the trade package for Baz?

I get that and obviously would love to get two 1sts for Bailey. I imagine that's where Power will start, but deep down he knows he's not getting that. The send out of contract player to the PSD because you aren't getting full trade value just doesn't happen and like with Dunkley, isn't going to happen here either.

If we can turn Bailey who is out the door into a Travaglia or Bo Allen etc who could become an A grader down the line for us plus another pick to play with next year, I think we'll take it and move on. I would much rather have one of these blue chip 1st rounders from the draft this year than nothing.

Butters just declared his love for Bont in his AA interview

Its Happening Ron Paul GIF

Imagine taking Bailey Smith, a Hawks supporting pretty-boy ahead of a passionate, gun Doggy supporter, who adored the Bont and Libba. Massive error.

Taking a well-rounded, well-performed, dedicated midfielder made much more sense than taking a talented but flakey small forward six years ago.

Fair point. I don't recall Butters name featuring that draft?

I know we were rapt Smith fell to our pick.

What was the drum on Butters at the time?

PS. Just get him here!

Small without great endurance, and injured partway through his draft year so couldn’t storm home and really show what he could do. His draft profile reads like a high risk high reward, x-factor kind of player, and you’ve gotta be really brave to pick that over someone like Smith who was incredibly consistent at a very high level.
