Hawks are immediately improving an area of need for 2024 with proven players.

Overpaying, maybe. But we have rolled out McNeil and VDM for most of the season with little selection pressure - clear area we could improve in. And let’s be real, neither would be getting much of a look anywhere else. We also have a wing that we seem somewhat indecisive about.

Would prefer us act on our weaknesses without just relying on drafting and internal development that may not happen as we need.

You didn’t say it directly, but you were downplaying them (again). Perhaps reading isn’t your strong point, I said even without Lewis, the Hawks will be formidable by adding the 2 KPD’s.

Pointing out shit depth and luck with injuries doesn’t go that far when they are adding key pieces and won’t lose too much just yet.

Apart from Lewis they have been quite healthy this year.

How about you wait to see how they go with some injuries and after the competition has had a pre season to work on their game plan because you know it will happen. If they navigate that successfully then of course they're the real deal.

Simply saying they're young and have added Battle and Barrass (who still might not be traded because he's contracted) doesn't necessarily equate to anything. The dogs were young in 2017 coming off a premiership. They missed the finals the next year.

Free agency compo is a joke. Can’t believe we’re still doing this nonsense. Been what 12(?) years since Frawley netted pick 3 for Melbourne, amazing that we’re still allowing it.

It’s a decent hit to the salary cap but I’m sure they’ll be fine. Collingwood won the flag while paying Treloar and Grundy 800k to play for other teams.

Them getting Barass is like us getting Pickett. A gun filling a clear area of need where we currently rotate stop gaps and role players.

Exactly……blunder by the Hawks allowing these announcements while still in the running. Literally, everyone has stopped talking about the kids, the celebrations, Hokball and how they can go all the way this year, and are now transfixed on “how good will they be next year?”

Agree to an extent but everyone knew where Dunkley was going

Announcing was a formality rather than a revelation

Battle announcing make no difference to Hawks players now

It can be confirmed St Kilda put one final offer to Battle in the belief that it could have seen him stay at Moorabbin that nearly hit $6 million.

Instead he decided to leave for Hawthorn.

The initial Hawthorn offer over six years was not enough to trigger first-round compensation for St Kilda given it did not reach $950,000 a year.

But St Kilda is optimistic that Battle would only have moved to Hawthorn if they could match the deal, which would allow them to secure a pick immediately after their own first-round pick at No.7 in the draft.


The Hawks are aware that the compensation drama will go down to the line given their offer is less than the St Kilda deal but could still just hit the first-round trigger.

It was only a 100k per year difference. I think Saints last offer was just too late in the end and he was already mostly set on leaving. If it turns out that the offer was matched for him it would indeed be pretty annoying.
