The bulldogs bring in delisted free agents to play on the wing and Melbourne bring in Hunter and Billings for irrelevant draft picks.

Remember that old chestnut about how Billings was an elite player and better than the Bont could ever be?

Hopefully Mitch focuses on Volleyball next year.
Sammy Power’s pitch at the end of 2024:

Option 1: 2028 Olympics are 4 years away. If you become literally the best volleyball player on the world you might get 6 months on a Wheetbix box and make a small amount of money.

Option 2: as a mobile 200cm plus AFL player even if your shit you’ll be on a list for at least 5 years and probably make >$1 million in that time.

Looking forward to Coffield getting a full pre season. Harmes to play Half forward or wing. Croft has versatility and could play back or Ruck if he doesn't play forward.
Re: Harmes - much more emphasis on his onball abilities in his interview on the Dogs site:

Looks like he'll be everywhere. Can't wait to see him in the ruck!

We have 7 picks so will need some additional list spots.

5, 48, 50, 52, 53, 56, 69.

As we have 5 rookies presently, and 33 main list - we have 4 open spots. If we additionally delist a rookie, we will have 5 open spots (34 senior, 4 rookie). We will then need to delist 2 more senior listed players - Bedendo and Crozier.

In summary, to use all 7 picks, we need to delist Crozier, Bedendo and then one of Roarke or McNeil.

Either that, or we should trade one of those later picks for a pick in next years draft.

With our points value, we need to consider that the value will dynamically change as Gold Coast and some others match bids ahead of us. So I think baring that in mind we will have some quite handy mid-40s selections in the draft.
We’ll regret delisting Bedendo when he becomes the next Leigh Matthews.

I’m pretty bullish on S Power’s work so far.Don’t think the issues are the playing list this year, the outs have been pretty much on point and the ins address needs and sorted the draft selections too.
Over to you Bevo and co to get the team up and about for 24.

I did the survey and was candid to say the least, they are lucky I am a loyal person after the level of frustration this season!

I'm stoked with our trade period really.

Harmes almost free and I reckon he plays R1 at half forward for us. Really good list fit with pace, defence, and goal kicking. Option to run-with if someone is getting off the chain.

Coffield also almost free. Athletic, defence, finally looks to have body right.

Pick 4(6) is awesome considering our father-son opportunity.

Dream run will be late bid on Croft, Lual making it past 40 to match, and getting a pick in before him.

Reading between the lines of Sammy P's presser, are we possibly looking at DFAs?
Given we need the 6 or 7 list spots open to match Croft bids, the only other alternative is to take 6 or 7 draft picks. It would be illogical not to take at least one or two DFA's.

Main positive for mine is pick 5, Harmes & Coffield likely push out 3 players to depth in round 1 - let’s say Scott, Baker & Keath as an example. If 1-2 of Cleary, Clarke, Bedendo, Garcia, Or AJ can have a big preseason and push into round 1 contention with a full list that leaves our bottom 6 looking reasonably healthy and a fair improvement on what we were putting out towards the end of this year.

Will be interesting to see what we do with Darcy, I’d imagine similar to last year a big preseason will have him in contention again by round 1. He’s just that good when he’s on the park he forces us to play him. But where?

Darcy as an intercept defender for mine. We still don’t really have one and it’s one of the most important positions in current footy.

Fighting for a position with Lobb, or replacing an injured tall imo.

I agree, at least for now. Alongside Jones & JOD who are both athletic it’s fine IMO, but not sure the club sees it that way
It’s the only way he’ll get a game for now and I think he has elite traits that would work well there. Do it for 12 months and then eventually take over from Lobb as a forward, with Busslinger taking the defensive role would be ideal

We’re well placed for Croft, let’s assume our late picks come in 3 by the time Croft is bid on (3 GC academy players and 6 picks to be wiped, could be more if they split during the draft)

Looking at the teams who hold picks 12-16 I think that’s where a bid comes in for him.

Worst case a bid comes at 12 we only use 45, 47, 49, & 50 to match leaving us with pick 53 & gaining an extra pick 55. We don’t need to have a list spot for 69 & 72 they’re useless.

Best case a bid at 16 we match with 45, 47 & 49. Leaving us with picks 50 & 53 to use at the draft.

Now when our picks are taken off the board and also Hawks picks in the 40s the picks we’re left with in the 50s will likely come in further to 2x mid 40s picks.

Meaning we can use one on Lual if he slides and then in an ideal world another pick in the 40s to use at the draft.

So the trade week went exactly as telegraphed for anybody paying attention.

We bundled a set of mid-lower range picks and moved into the very pointy end of the draft. Allowing a team that would consider itself to have underperformed a rare opportunity to grab one of the best handful of this years draft pool. One would think that they did this with a very specific player in mind.

We shuffled numerous picks around that will enable us to secure a projected top 15 f/s for a price in line with expectations.

We brought in a mid tier journeyman who fills a need.

We brought in an injury plagued former top 10 draft pick. As a moneyball free hit.

Sam Power may do his best work in the shadows, but you dont need to eat bags of carrots to see what he's up to.

He is nothing if not doggedly consistent with how he operates.

As much as it puts sand in underpants in here.

It would appear that the search for coaching backup is moving in the same dull but methodical direction. One where the club makes strategic leaks in the days before somebody is about to sign on.

He looked great in his first game v Freo in defence. Clunked a bunch of marks.
Yeah 100% - it’s underrated how good he was in his first few games in defence

I really don’t care if he gets burnt on the lead a couple of times a game, he could be the best contested mark in defence in the league as early as next year. It’s an absolute, unmatched, weapon. Plus he reads the play behind the ball brilliantly and is the best kick out of all of our tall defenders by an absolute mile.

I really don’t get why we’re so adverse to trying this when we have a gaping hole in defence for a defender who can mark, and a stacked to the brim forward line?
