PREMIERSHIP BULLDOG'S CALL

WESTERN Bulldogs premiership player Caleb Daniel is not expected to seek a move to North Melbourne unless the Dogs open the door for him to depart late in the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

What does this even mean unless the Dogs open the door for him to depart

Could apply this logic to every single player who has requested a trade whilst contracted.

Who writes this stuff lol!

That’s one man that certainly wants to remain here.

Maybe we can’t find a suitable deal for Macrae with the Saints and we end up moving on Caleb instead if North are offering up a significantly better deal?

I know that won’t happen but something to think about. It’s always been one or the other for me.

The subtext is norf making us an offer we can’t refuse.

Tell that to saints supporters who think they'll bend us over no matter what

The lesson from all this angst about Smith is, sign your players before their final year or trade them prior. We have a nasty habit of being far too comfortable letting players into the final 12 months of their deals. The game has changed and we're one of the clubs who hasnt changed with it yet

1000% we no way we should have let Marra, English and Smith all enter this year without a commitment. It’s terrible list management and puts us under huge pressure. Managers must love dealing with us.

I suspect that being the good clubman he is that he’s open to moving on if it’s to our advantage. But is content to stay if it isn’t.
This seems to be all it's about. He's not going to publicly ask for a trade if he thinks it wont get done and probably wants to leave the club on good terms if he's to do it.

I wont begrudge Caleb moving on at all, and the fact he's still so committed to the club makes it all the more sad that he's drifted away from being at one point in time one of our most important players

As part of the negotiations with st kilda for Macrae, I’d request them to make some noise about taking Bailey smith in the draft.

Caleb Daniel is an interesting one. I think he can and will get back to his best footy.

However, him getting back to his aa best doesn’t necessarily mean we will be a better side or his deficiencies won’t get exposed in a big final. Really on the fence with this one.

I do think this a deal where we are in a good spot. North will be pretty desperate to get this over the line to prize a very good player while draft picks for another kid won’t mean much to them.

"Caleb Daniel might request a trade to North. But if not, he'll remain a Bulldog."

This incisive analysis has been brought to you by AFL media.

With all the BS this trade period is going to bring... it really raises my opinion of Daniel and Macrae. I've always liked them as Bulldog players, obviously, but their loyalty and stoic attitude are amazing. Whatever happens, I hope they have success. Just not at the expense of us. If only we could bottle it and put it in Smith's coffee so he wouldn't be such a knob jockey.
