I don’t understand that trade for the eagles at all. Isn’t this draft touted as basically the top 5 could all go #1?

They split the Sheezel pick and how’d that go…

No disrespect to Macrae, who is a club legend, but I think Sanders takes his spot from Rd 1 and we don’t notice his absence.
Agreed, Macrae is a great back up but would have a much larger role at the Saints.

I hope he gets there for his own sake. The only real issue is his wage which does have an impact on trade value

We can afford to pay part can’t we?

If it means getting a pick in the 20’s, paying part salary for two years is good business.

Not unpopular, I think the end came for Libba as a permanent onballer last year personally. Been a great warrior, but needs to also be phased out of the middle sooner rather than later. I think he will get the high half forward gig next year.
I think most observers could see that. With our forward line we need dynamic, fast with good foot skills bursting through the middle. Easier said than done though.
It was obvious Libba was slowing down but his elimination finals performance was an eye opener

So to get this pick 3, Carlton have given up pick 12, their future 1st, future 2nd and Owies. Impossible to tell how much of a "win" (or loss) that is yet given the future picks - if they finish in the same position it's pick 12 + pick 10 + pick 28 (pre next year's FA compo) + Owies for pick 3.

That’s even more horrendous.

Whoever’s cheering this trade on needs their head read.

Carlton the big losers in that deal. Lose two 1st rounders in a deep draft and a 30+ goal a season small forward.

For the single 1st rounder.

Remember both Cripps and Curnow went early teens. Will Phillips went at 3.

Not so sure about that. The top5 mids in this draft are elite. You’d have to upper cut yourself if you stuff up pick 3.

Pick 3 and the two father sons is a pretty nice haul considering next years draft is reportedly weak.

Owies was being forced out also.

Brian Lake. 3 time Premiership player and Norm Smith Medallist maybe?
I wouldn’t say that hurt us long term. 2015 (his final season) was the only one where we were a decent side - but it let Roberts/Hamling get experience which was critical for 2016. I think if we hung on to him, nothing would’ve changed for us and he would’ve had less personal success - win for both sides

Paddy Dow (LDU/Cerra) and Lochie O'Brien (Richards/Bailey) say "Hi"

They were getting the FS’s anyway. Seems well overs for a single 1st rounder.

The Owies decision is a head scratcher. They haven’t had a 30+ a season small forward since Jeff Garlett. Owies is 60 across the last two seasons. And they let him walk.

Yeap, he was the weakest of the 4, Bont, Treloar and Richards and opposition coaches were exploiting his lack of dash. Cold, windy day on a slow track, maybe yet fast open expansion of the MCG, just can't play that role anymore.

Owies is a lot like Mitch Wallis became for us,

1 dimensional accurate kick when needed but no pressure and only take a mark when no one near them

I guess you gotta trade hard to go up that high in the draft. Just look at us with Sanders.

Sorry to barge in here but do you know who said this?
Sam McClure was talking to Matthew Lloyd about Houston going to Pies on AW last night, seemed to be saying it was happening
