The issue with our forwards isn’t talent, or even output and work rate, it’s consistency. All three talks thrive on momentum. And I think only ever really seen Naughton build into games. If JUH and Darcy to a lesser extent( probably due to inexperience) start poorly they don’t often get better through the game. But if the start hot they tear games apart. I really think they will be working with sports psychologists as much as kicking coaches in the off season.
I believe we need 3 things to happen to our fwd line which alot of this board has been harping on about for ages.
1: Fwd line coach that teaches the required leading patterns for our tall fwds and how to crumb for our smaller fwds. Flea is not a key fwd.
2: Goal kicking practise, not just the physical side but the emotive eg pressure kicks. We can't be kicking it out of bounds on the full 30 meters in front.
3: Hitting targets on the lead and kicking to space. We got out marked by Hawks defenders in the finals because of poor service into the fwd line.

For reference

Fox Footy is reporting we have two spots open

While AFL is reporting we only have one stop open
Both the status of JOD as a Cat B rookie, and whether or not we count a Cat B rookie spot as a free spot, leading to the confusion.

We literally have no idea

Even Draftguru, which is generally excellent, got some of our rookie statuses wrong for this past season

I don't want Jamarra to leave. But I get the feeling he wants to leave us and will.

This isn't based on any rumour, nor do I have any inside knowledge. It's just the same feeling I always had with Baz.

Watching him in that final against the Hawks was more than enough evidence I needed to confirm my feelings are accurate.

Similar to Baz, he's never going to be the number 1 man here. Darcy is. The 'big' clubs will come knocking again. Rinse and repeat.

Fair enough mate , I personally haven’t been overly impressed with him but respect your opinion. Hope he proves me wrong
I am with you on this mate. Not as sold as many on here re JOD just yet. He has shown glimpses, but still has plenty to work on. I prefer Buku as the 3rd tall defender behind Lobb and Jones, but I am sure JOD will get first crack at this role.

I really think he hasn’t done a lot to be honest . Has a big reputation. I’d like to see Busslinger get a run of games

I do tend to agree. To me he wasn't really warranting a spot in our 22 but he was the best option as the 3rd tall with his blend of size, pace & skill.

It's important he received those AFL games though as it will fast track his development. Unfortunately Busslinger wast allowed the same opportunity and I feel like there is only one room for one or the other next season (unless we have injuries to Jones & Lobb).

Kids an absolute gun, major Sam Taylor vibes.
Can't say I have seen that just yet but I think having Lobby holding down the backline with Jones will help him massively and not force us to expect too much of him just yet. I was worried how a rail thin Calsher Dear bullied him in our final loss but again JOD is still a kid too.

I think we also have to be prepared for the Jones cliff. I'm not sure his first half of the season was as good as the previous year (though there was the general vibes he was continuing his 'good form') and he followed that up by playing some quite poor games late in the year, like our final round win vs GWS where he was pretty woeful.

He's also going to be 34 when the start of the season comes - the fact that the cliff might be approaching shouldn't be that surprising.

Both JOD and Busslinger will have roles to play.

Wide range of opinions on JOD here - I have another again. I thought his first year was very impressive playing a tough role, but thought 2024 was actually a step backwards if anything. I don't think he improved noticeably, which is a slight worry. Still think he can be a good player but I'm not as confident he's a sure thing as I was 12 months ago.

I do wonder if Coffield is the forgotten man here too - decent on the medium forwards and can compete one on one.

As far as cliffs go - Libba is the biggest for me. I was really worried about his finish to the year and he has real competition for his spot.

Yeah absolutely agree - will be a sad day if he is passed

I suspect that a lot of us will feel that Jones and Libba went on a year too long late next season; Libba started the season in great form but wasn't the same after the concussion and Jones' form fell off late in the year.

Couple of champs being dismissed way too soon for mine.

Libba's numbers were rock solid to the end of last year, was just about our best player in the final.

Missed 7 games last year ( mostly early/mid year) and still finished 6th in the b&f.

He'll be 32, but looks hungry and his old man was still going strong at 36.

Liam finished 4th in the b&f and hardly skipped a beat.

I'll bet both are best 22 whenever fit all year and will be on the list in 2026.

He has very good foot skills which puts him in front of a few other defenders.

I must have been watching a different game. Our midfield was absolutely destroyed in the final.

We were, but that doesn't mean every midfielder had a stinker. Libba had 25 possies, 14 contested, 7 clearances and was named in the AFL website match report as our best player on the night.

Anyone who cites this game as evidence of his imminent demise is kidding themselves.

Yeah, I'm kidding myself. Our midfield was great and Libba wasn't letting players just run around him as he was not slowing down in 2024 after a good start to the year at all. And his poor 2km time trial last week is all fine and dandy.
