We badly need to look for a Duryea replacement via trade or drafting. He's looking very old out there lately and a small defender who can stop small forwards is probably our biggest weakness in defence.
Maybe we are watching him tonight Maynard would be my first choice. Bonus is he is a free agent and won't cost any draft capital.

I can’t thank Carlton enough for Kennedy. Shades of Dunkley. Strong mark, tough, big body. Great asset.

He's very much the homebrand Dunkley. No complaints as he's something that we have needed but just not as good as Dunks

Does Bevo have huge wraps on him?
He did early last year but by the end of the year Sanders wasn't even in the 22. Probably fair enough too.

Sanders has a bit of ground to make up in that regard but he's still young and has time.

I know it's hard, but we need to stop measuring him against where he went in the draft. That's now just historical fact. We need to think about the fact that we have a promising kid on our list who has only just turned 20. He might never be elite (we can't know at this stage) but he'll continue to improve. Especially if we stay off his back and give him time to develop and gain confidence.

What concerns me about Sandwrs is what his draft profile was, specifically strengths/weaknesses. It’s tough because those weaknesses are tough to overcome - he won’t get taller or faster. He’s not lethal by foot and is a big handball merchant.

if there’s an archetype you could ascribe to him it would be a Libba - but Libba has made it work by basically being one of the best contested ball winners of all time. And is a sound decision maker by foot. But Libba doesn’t have much to fall back on - can’t play any other position. As Bruce Lee said - fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times. That’s Libba.

So I just query with Sanders whether that was the right use of a bit of an investment. His profile is kind of alarming, those types of mids are not the flavour of the game any more.

If he’s going to make it he is going to have to improve a lot because he currently is an inferior Libba, basically. And it’s not necessarily seamless fitting them both into a team.

If Libba (god forbid) had to retire tomorrow then Sanders would get an opportunity to fill that role and maybe get really good at it. Otherwise he’s going to have to find some kind of string for his bow.

I do agree, like with Busslinger, the draft position can’t factor in to long term considerations, we can’t go back in time and change it. With Buss for example, would anybody be clamouring for him to play if he was taken at pick 70 and yet to debut into his third season?

Is the club happy with Sanders production, maybe. That we don’t know. If Treloar and Bont were available would he be in the side? I don’t think so.

It is also early, we’ve been spoiled by some incredible draft picks over the last few years that have had immediate impact.

This 100%. He is cooked. Making silly decisions, getting caught out with speed in the lead and also getting caught out over the back. We can’t continue with him in the team if we’re serious. He should be break glass in case of emergency.
Leave Harvey as the small defender. Quicker, happy to put his body in and has 10 years ahead of him.

North Melbourne are set to offer Brayden Maynard a 5-6m 6 year contract.

We wouldn't even get close to that, if we were interested.
Which means we might be out of the running for Rowell
Since Pies will get a first rounder
