So an accumulator who is slow and can't put pressure on the opposition? ☹

Different type of pressure to be fair. Not a chaser and run and spread guy. But is a good tackler and a big strong body that can take the ball away from the opponent in the contest or work as a defensive mid in the stoppage to keep the ball locked in, affect the extractor or pin the ball carrier before he can break out. Used in the right role he could be valuable, just tough to see the fit with Libba, Treloar, Bont, Sanders etc... We will be very thankful we have him if we lost Libba for any period of time.

Remembering games last year where we got slapped by Newcombe, Cripps, Oliver etc, he may be perfect to throw into the middle to help offset that.

If we're comparing a 3 year deal vs a 3 year deal, who out of Macrae and Kennedy are likely to be the better player is 2027?
Are we going to play the two seasons between now and then or should we just write them off? Macrae is twice the player and it’s sickening any Bulldogs fan would suggest otherwise.

Matthew Kennedy literally got 30 touches in a game 4 games ago.

He's not a star but he's a better footballer than the likes of Riley Garcia, surely.

And got subbed out 1 match ago with 5 disposals in 1.5 quarters. He and Kemp were 2 of their poorer contributors, which is saying something in the first half their entire team dished up that night.

The 33 was also an outlier in most of his season, and in a game they got smashed by Hawks.

Statistics, statistics. 🙂

I disagree, their output for 2024 was at least vaguely comparable before we get into salary cap implications.

I’m going to punch the next person in the face that tries to compare Kennedy to Macrae. Kennedy is an ok footballer, but don’t insult Macrae.

Not sure it’s the right move though, considering we need games and minutes into Sanders & Garcia as a priority. He’s another Harmes and we can’t carry multiple players like that into games every week along with VDM/McNeil/Gallagher etc

Unless he just wants to get out of the club that slapped him in the face, knows he’ll be playing a lot of VFL and would only really play depending on injuries & suspensions…then yeah I can see something there.

If we have to pay any pick under 65 for Kennedy, hell no.

If you buy that Macrae has deteriorated as a footballer to the point where he's somehow not playable in the midfield for any length of time, Kennedy.

If you think Macrae is playing just how he always has when forced to play as a permanent half forward for no apparent reason (and off an interrupted preseason), I don't think it's clear cut.

Regardless, Kennedy is a 28yo who has never been more than a fringe player at an above average side. Expecting him to be a meaningful upgrade on anybody in 3 years is bold.

This gonna be good.

Macrae is "forced" to play as a half forward because he's to slow to be in a main midfield mix with Libba and Bont and they're much better
