Is this being just super specific, or is he not from Framlingham, which is about 20km away?
If i remember correctly - Framlingham basically exists because the white population of Warrnambool booted out all the indigenous people and made them live in Framlingham. I can see why it would cause some distress to say he was from Warrnambool

I had an awesome dream last night. Jamarra was holding a press conference:

"I'd like to put to rest all of this ridiculous speculation about me leaving the Dogs. I love this club and want to reassure all Doggy supporters of my commitment to my teammates and all of the wonderful people that have supported me. And, let me make it very clear, if I were to ever leave the Whitten Oval, it wouldn't be for that dodgy sh!t stain of a club down the road at Sleepy Hollow. The rumours of me wanting to get to the Cats are just some gutter journo's wet dream. Anyway, I hope that clarifies things."

Jamarra then grew a pair of butterfly wings and flew between the big sticks at the Whitten Oval from sixty metres out on a forty-five degree angle.

"Gettable" seems to be a case of looking down the list of the following clubs and creating a plausible narrative around anyone good under the age of 26 who hasn't recently signed a 10 year contract:
  • WB
  • St Kilda
  • North (although I'm waiting for them to do the same story on McKercher  )
  • Gold Coast
... and occasionally Freo and Melbourne.

How often do we read stories about some young gun at Collingwood, Geelong, Carlton, Sydney, etc being "gettable"?

Yeah, I thought as much.

It’s not just Gettable, the whole footy media seems to believe that the smaller Melbourne clubs should act as feeder club for the bigger ones.

A lot of this comes from the history of Aussie Rules, especially in the 60's, '70s and '80s, when salary caps didn’t exist and the big clubs could throw way more money at players than the smaller clubs could.

Given our recent travails with Hunter, Stringer, Dahlhaus, BSmith and JUH (Dunkley probably an exception) it seems a bit too much of a coincidence that our 2024 intake consisted almost entirely of kids or mature age players who you would describe as "solid citizens", balanced, future leaders, hard workers, good for club culture.

I'm not saying we have (or should have) a strict No Dickheads policy but when kids start to go off track it seems that we become much more a target for losing them than say a Collingwood, Brisbane or Sydney would. So it would make sense.

It doesn't mean we should never go after a highly talented but potentially wayward youngster if one happens to become available to us. For example if we had the opportunity to draft the next JUH I'd take it. But if it's a choice between two equally talented and desirable players it makes sense to go for the one with more of the "solid citizen" resume.

I should also add that it was by no means predictable when they were drafted that BSmith and JUH would go the path they have, but it doesn't change the need for targeting solid citizens (who play good footy). It's not just about keeping the player himself, it's the impact he has - positively or negatively - on the rest of the list, and on team harmony and cohesion. Bont is a great example.

If last year's intake is pure coincidence then it's a happy one. If it's deliberate policy then I don't mind it at all.

Gettable is two AFL 'journos' (I guess) to create clickbait fake outrage content for their bosses to keep people talking.

Once upon a time not all that long ago, the focus between March and September was on the actual matches, you know the wins and losses, the performances....

Now it's just as much about player movement and not even players out of contract or out of favour, it's pie in the sky stuff about what may or may not happen at some stage possibly down the track, if all goes well.

It's all just pure filler, utter garbage, but that's the world we live in. The Gettable sort of guff does nothing for the game.

Now, this might sound like blaspehmy but...I'm getting to the age where liking and respecting my team for being good people means just as much if not more than on-field success. To clarify, success..but not at any cost. I think we do follow that mantra at the Bulldogs, and I can't say the same for some other clubs. Some may regard this as a weakness, but I've certainly come around to that more holistic perspective. Doesn't mean that I don't get upset when we lose, but if success means being a team of devious or arrogant w***ers....yeah, not so keen on that these days. Sport is ephemeral. One's character is what you build a whole life around.

Regardless of the crap being spun by journos, I follow a decent club and a team that I am proud of. Led by a man of principle.

Leek Aliir 'Gettable' according to Twomey. Do we ask the question?
Couldn’t hurt, need bodies down back who can intercept.

I have concerns for our backline moving forward. With Lobb and Jones on the wrong side of 30, Buss’ lack of opportunity and Croft’s long term position still up in the air, we definitely need to bolster our options come the end of the year.

Khamis, Cleary both probably below AFL standard whilst JOD is far from proven. Coffield is the forgotten man, bloke can’t keep fit for more than one game at a time.

Bramble was good recruitment on our part, quick and a decent ball user but not great defensively.

Dale is an A grader.

That’s on top of a Duryea replacement (Jacques?) as a lockdown small.

As well as a JJ replacement - need more dash of the HB line (particularly with Ed and Joel moving into midfield). Our depth in those areas is starting to look quite thin. Lots of work to be done.

yep any player out of contract, out of form or not in the seniors is immediate content for them without having to do any research at all on who is actually gettable or a target

Absolute hack content

Trading Marra has turned into a near impossible to win situation.

Yes he’s under contract…for just one more season after this.

We can’t just up and trade him to Norf or west coast and get pick 1 - he has to okay any trade.

We know it will be Geelong, Brisbane, Sydney etc. teams that at this point never bottom out.

If we are actively shopping him because we genuinely want him gone for off field issues we lose leverage. God forbid if we pull a Stringer and publicly sack him.

I don’t see a way for us to get his true worth. We saw with Bailey Smith, in theory the onus was on Geelong to trade up and present us a good pick - they didn’t and it didn’t matter. Yes Marra isn’t out of contract this season but if we’re shopping him…
