Cal Thomey reporting we have appointed Port Adelaide’s Michael Regan as player acquisition and strategy manager.

Get excited everyone. Hopefully he still has some connections and was whispering in this man’s ear before departing.

Failing Butters, I'd take Bergmann in a heartbeat. Good in the air and on the ground. Can play HB or wing.

JUH & 1st round pick for Harley Reid....?
I want to keep Marra but for discussion sake perhaps a situation like the following going down with some other picks thrown in there;
Dogs: Reid
Syd: Marra
WC: Warner & F1 (Dogs)

WC may even look to get Buss as part of a deal, they were interested last year but he signed on with us.

We're not paying Reid double of what we're paying the Bont (let the bombers pay $2-2.5m pa for him).

Agree on salary demands, but I really don't think Reid will get anywhere near that. Much like JHF at Port - the petulance will reduce his earnability at this stage in his career. Either way, these scenarios all make a complete mockery of the Scott Gullan narrative seeding piece on behalf of Geelong. Bulldogs have a lot of leverage with JUH contracted in 2026.

The salary cap in 2015 was $10.071 million, with Tom Boyd joining on a contract averaging $1 million per season (10% of the cap at the time)

The cap in 2026 will be $18.3 million. If Reid signs a $2 million contract, that’s 11% of the cap.

Puts things into perspective a little - at the time, it was an all-in move to try stabilise the club with a massive gamble on a high upside young player. Not dissimilar to what Essendon may be attempting with Reid.

Not a chance could we afford to offer that kind of contract though if we want to keep the young core together. Darcy, Richards and Naughton are all long term million dollar players (and JUH if he stays). Rather try get a guy like Butters or Rowell on half that money. Though in reality we probably continue recruiting role players and drafting/developing our own stars

Safe to assume he won’t be debuting this week?
You'd think if he was going to debut we'd have a video up by now.
He just be damn close though

Good, not fair to throw him into the furnace at the G in his first game, next week against Carlton however….
This sentiment works in the first or second year. But if he's not getting picked I'd hope it's purely because the coaches don't think he's good enough.

Don't think Jamarra will go this year (hope he doesnt go at all) I reckon Geelong will wait and let us get him somewhat right and swoop at the end of 2026 when he's OOC and cheaper, like they did with Smith.

They will move their 2026 R1 out this year in a trade for Rowell/Butters and put some rubbish deal together to take Jamarra next year.

Nix all chance they get Butters . He will be more likely to stay at Port.

Rowell probably.more likely to stay too

Rowell or Butters will cost them significantly more than a 2026 first round pick.

Geelong don’t get every player they want, our own McCrae turned them down in favour of living in leafy Melbourne.
