Trade Deal - Hawthorn, Port and Essendon

this trade would look a lot more balanced if hawks simply also gave pick #9 to Port. Port get a top 10 pick and lovett. hawks get burgoyne. i reckon that bit is about right. the in williams/ out lovett bit seems a bit light on for essendon though.

Burgoyne >>> Lovett >>> Williams

Essendon will lose out of this for sure. Hawks would have to throw in their third round pick as well to even the deal out.
Sounds about right.

Would much rather the following:

pick 9 & McGlynn to Port -> Burgoyne

Then Willo to Dons -> pick 26

Ofcourse the winners of any deal would say to the loser it is fair .
Realistically the Hawks would have to throw in a sweetener.

We have seen in the past stars walk for nothing, and duds get overvalued, I dont know what goes through the mind of recruiters and coaches, so I wont speculate till the deal is done.
If it happens at all...............................................

Burgoyne >>> Lovett >>> Williams

Hawthorn the big winners (usually a giveaway when Hawthorn posters call a deal "fair")

Port lose (Lovett not as good as Burgoyne)

Dons lose (Williams not as good - certainly not as fit - as Lovett)

This might work if Hawthorn throw in their second rounder / Kennedy for Essendon and McGlynn to PA.

The first thing I asked myself was 'would Port be happy getting just Lovett for Burgoyne and thought NO WAY.

I totally agree with this post, unfortunately this isn't fair and wont happen. Hawthorn clear winners in this by a mile.

Doesn't benefit us at all.

Williams has twice kicked 65+ goals in a season, kicked 5 goals in a prelim, and 3 goals in our GF win. Is a proven match-winner on the big stage. What's Lovett ever done in a game that matters?

I dont think Port will want Lovett anyway but if they did and we were getting lovett and 9 then you could probably sent Ports second or third rounder to the bombers to even it up.

Williams and Lovett are obviously inferior players to Burgoyne, but Lovett is MASSIVELY overrated. He played every game this year and finished ELEVENTH in the Essendon B&F overnight. Yes he can run fast, but the rest of his game is average. Williams can kick goals, win important matches and If he gets his body right for next year he'll be twice the player that Lovett ever has been.

I don't want Lovett at Hawthorn as he's Fevola Mark II off the field, but a swap of Williams for Lovett would be a fair trade

To even it up:

Values based on 50-draft pick (so a #1 pick worth 50, #10 40, etc).

Burgoyne = 40
Lovett = 30
Williams = 25
#25 = 25
#26 = 24
#42 = 8

Burgoyne and 42 (3rd) to Hawks, Williams and 25 (2nd) to Essendon, Lovett and 26 (2nd) to Port.

However, I don't think Port wanted Lovett. Perhaps a better deal would be:

Tuck/McGlynn = 15

Williams to Essendon for #26, Burgoyne to Hawthorn for Tuck/McGlynn, 26 and 41.

Not sure Andy Lovett would enjoy the trade. Would be goin to a club that early in the season smashed him on the field then accused him of breaking the players code at the tribunal.

Didn't Chad come out any say that they were looking forward to playing essendon again and would forget what had happened

IMO:
Burgoyne A grade (?)
Lovett B grade
Williams C grade

IMO this is much more fair then the 3 way player swap.

Port get Lovett, 25 (ess) 40 (haw) lose Burgoyne
Haw get Burgoyne lose Williams, 9, 40
Ess get Williams, #9 (haw) lose Lovett, 25

Theres NOWAY possible a 3 way deal will be done with these clubs.

Ess finished 8th, Haw 9th and PA 10th. Theres not a great deal in difference in value between the draft picks.

*I think it's unlikely hawks will depart with pick 9.
*It sounds as though PA are demanding a 1st rounder and a player for Burgoyne.

As a Port Support Lovett and the picks don't interest me. I would rather keep pick 8 and do a st8 swap for pick 9, worst case trade scenario.

I would prefer we traded Burger and Salopek to Melb for pick 2 if not Sal then Kane

Mark williams is still a major player at the mighty hawks, with cyril more midfield bound in 2010. His dead eye dick goalkicking is a must in the side.

Port Adelaide need to understand that Burgoyne doesnt want to play for them, so they either settle for what the hawks give them, or they can get nothing in return. So... You port fans complain you have no inside players, no real tough gritty players to win you the ball, well we have plenty of them. Take your pick - Kennedy(22)/ Tuck / Mcglynn. Now you might say they arent worth burgoyne, but you have no cards to play with. so shut it.

Hawthorn, give them pick 9 and kennedy. Cos we dont need either of them. Kennedy is the better of the 3, and is young. I think this is a win win for both teams, given the situation both clubs find themselves in.

If port dont take the deal, They lose even harder. Very very stupid if they take that option, but we are dealing with South Australians here, so who knows.

Not the first time port have played hardball and lost out, (stevens). they need to accept a deal.

3 way trade seems likely

Ess Lose - A.Lovett, Pick #26, Pick #42
Ess Gain - M.Williams, Pick #25, Pick #41

Port Lose - S.Burygone
Port Gain - Pick #9, A.Lovett

Hawks Lose - M.Williams, Pick #9, Pick #25, Pick #41
Hawks Gain - S.Burygone, Pick #26, Pick #42

This is fair for both Port Adelaide and Hawthorn, however Essendons getting screwed over because were getting a guy with a bung knee and giving Port Adelaide one of the best kicks in the comp coming off his best year. Revamp the deal perhaps, I dont know.

To be fair to that suggestion, he ****ed up the pick numbers.

Port Adelaide:
Gain: Lovett, #26, #41
Lose: Burgoyne

Essendon:
Gain: #9, Williams
Lose: Lovett, #26

Hawthorn:
Gain: Burgoyne
Lose: #9, Williams, #41

Having said that, I can't see pick #9 going anywhere other than Port Adelaide.

I am not too sure this is on the cards. Mark Williams is a valuable player for us ,but he has an injury cloud doesn't he? Would the bombers take the chance, not sure.

Port Adelaide:

Having said that, I can't see pick #9 going anywhere other than Port Adelaide.
I like your Mathew Knights predictions .Could be right to , I think he is going to be a very astute coach, I reckon he's proved a lot of people wrong . Good luck to him maybe the Hawks and the Bombers can play off 2012 and we can get you back for 84/85.

Thats a poor prediction. Lovett and 26 for williams and 9?.. so if willo is a 2nd rounder, lovett is worth 9? no way. port will be pissed off with that trade, wouldnt work. as a hawk im not so fussed, but 9, 41 and williams for burgoyne is not a fair/reasonable trade...maybe if it were 9 n williams then might be reasonable, but willo is being very underrated in all these predictions. for burgoyne, pick 9 and a fringe player like thorp or even mcglynn would be a fair trade for bothe parties. lovett is worth a 2nd rounder, no more. lovett will go to freo.

"Lovett and 26 for williams and 9?"

Williams isn't worth a 2nd rounder. Prob worth about 35 or 40.

BUT Lovett isn't worth 9.

this deal would leave Ess with picks 9 and 10.

Williams not a massive part of Hawthorn this year. Who would you rather, Williams or Burgoyne?
