"Forward Tony Notte was well off the pace set by his teammates.

While the leading players finished the 1km runs in 3min. 40sec. and most were under four minutes, Notte trailed badly and took more than five minutes to complete the last two runs."

As stated in Eagle Eye WAFL coloumn, Notte's key focus will be on building endurance to produce a 4 quarter effort and i guess that will be the trade-off for bulking up at the moment.

More than 5 minutes to run a 1km is a pretty poor effort for an AFL athlete.

This cannt be right!

When fully fit I am around 92kg at 6'1 - i.e. relatively heavy and by no means a fantastic athelete, and as part of triathlon training we do 10 * 1km with a minute rest in between drill. My times range between 3.45-3.55 for the duration. To take 5.00 minutes is a disgrace even when you allow for this being the first pre-season training session.

cut tony some slack they probably made him eat a large whopper combo pre session so he wouldnt lose any weight during it. we were going to ditch hj's as a major sponsor the year before notte was drafted but the club realised they couldnt afford to feed tony even with our massive purse

Yeah, those times are way off

The quicker guys would be under 3 mins.

The most important part of FF is fast leading , Notte may not have the endurance but he has good speed in WAFL games I've seen .

Just being fast on the lead isn't enough. Forwards need the endurance to lead multiple times and without any endurance base he won't be able to sustain those fast leads over 4 quarters.

Opposition sides will also be quick to recognise that he has limited endurance and will instruct his defender to make repeated runs down the ground to test him out.

Endurance would be one of the most important attributes for an AFL footballer these days, regardless of what position they play in.

Even the leading players running 3:40 isnt a great time, i remember running sub 3:30 when i was in grade 5/6.

The positive is that at least his inconsistency within games can be linked to a poor running capacity, which is more improveable in the off-season than being inconsistent within games with a good running capacity (i.e due to poor game sense/play reading ability).

So we want Notte to put on another 6-8 kilos of bulk and have a good tank?

All at once, sounds like mission impossible. Maybe the Eagles have him putting on bulk first hoping the fitness will come after?

Maybe we've made a mistake!

I reckon Notte is in trouble then  . Plugger had speed on the lead with not much endurance, can I compare Notte to Plugger :p

Notte also a brilliant kick , both feet IMO only Lecras better

Yeah I'm taller than Notte and have more kgs on the frame and even I run a km faster than 5 minutes (abeit close). Pretty disgraceful TBH.
