This is for you Lord of the Wings

Frankly, listening to her speak it was very disappointing. She's still not the right fit.

Intriguing post.

The loss of Sheerin on field is huge. So huge I do think it derails us for a season at least, and unless there are broad changes off field, I doubt we make finals again in a hurry. This ties in with your observation and comment about a dearth of Rising Star noms. We are simply not growing our own well enough! With Jones and Reid gone, we get that chance - again!

Sheerin is / was a cross coder who came to AFLW late. Lavey too. You could even call Conti a cross-coder. Not sure these are a problem.

I would be very interested to know from the Club Psych, Lara, (I think) whether she had a inkling of Sheerin's impending departure and when? At the end of the day, Sheerin has read the tea leaves better than any of us, and being closer to the end of her elite sports career, the decision to get to North is probably an astute one for her. Won't be the last.

I'm please Yassir re-signed for an other year. Did think she would.

The Richmond Cultural demands don't always work, and criticising that and holding Brennan to account is pointless. We loved it in 2017 with men's team. AFLW women are trying to find there own, and it takes a strong and sensitive Captain like Cotchin - is that Brennan too - I think she is our best at it so far. You and I don't have to like the 'fluff' - but they do!

100% agree Phar Ace
at the end of the day, Sheerin can do as she pleases, if she wants more success, she'll get that in spades at North ATM
Libby Birch is another that seems to bunny hops to the next premiership side, she's had 3 of them

the word "mercenary" comes to mind, but every player male or female plays to win GF's
there's only a limited time playing footy, as they say "you're a long time retired"

still for the AFLW league going fwd, it's going to be a boring watch for 2 or 3 years with North destroying teams
not sure the AFL want that sort of look, 1 super team and the rest playing for 2nd

Can’t believe they didn’t lose a player ,,,they need to work on mechanisms to ensure movement . Most other leading clubs have been poached , lions and demons

I would be amazed if North have the room in their salary cap to pay Sheerin what she is worth either. They are chock full of stars already. It is up to Millzy now what she does but she obviously wanted to get to Essendon very badly.
That may well be the case but we not norf and in her mind the expectation would be that she warranted being up the food chain ,,,the comment change in personal circumstances is a broad brush statement and could mean anything really . That no senior players commented publicly tells me the split was an acrimonious one

Personal circumstances surely means more money but begs the question how North can manage their list to be in a position to be able to pay her more than we can?

Good on them but more shit by us to my mind

I doubt they have , but If she’s pissed and fervently believes that if at RFc she should be better paid , she’s out regardless of what she’s paid elsewhere, the silence tells me it was a tumultuous split

Maybe it’s as simple as her career is in its twilight and she wanted to play in a premiership team where her best friend is now the football manager. Naturally her team mates would be disappointed at that. Does it always have to be convoluted conspiracy theories ?

This smells like BS club propaganda to me. There was a major fallout 100%

Same. Eilish asked to move repeated times apparently, it's not like this blew up in a week or even a month. We are just all surprised and disappointed.

May have come off the top turnbuckle but…as others have posted, we do seem to have some that are more driven than others and elite sport isnt about making new friends.
Yassir looks hungry for it and there’s no question Sheerin is completely committed to doing her best, she plays like it’s her ball and the oppo are trying to keep it from her.
Our current players and future players..we need that.
Listening to the North players talk about what they did together to prepare for the season, is there that level of commitment?

Yes we get new talent and I’m looking forward to seeing them and I do think we haven’t had access to as big a pool of talent as say the SA clubs have had and some of our busts..Molan, Woods and others I don’t think there where many better options around them but to pick Reid ahead of Sherar (BnF winner this year) and Tess Craven is just pulling the wrong rein IMO.
Our recruiter…to think
Reid was the best available talent ahead of those two it’s just a poor decision.
We dont seem to be able to atttract talent. This mess with Yassir and how it’s played out, I know she’s going to play another year but it’s been pretty
clear that she didn’t want to.

In terms of us improving and where we are at compared to other teams, to me it looks like we are pretty much where we were four seasons ago.
We haven’t made up any ground and that’s disappointing.

The facts are we traded our 2nd best player for pick 18. Close to the shittest trade in the clubs history.
I’d suggest considering she wanted out , the choice was 18 or walk to ND . Less Ire about the trade more about the list management that came to this point that we couldn’t re sign her

Yea it is a live option , but why the silence surrounding her departure , that tells me it was acrimonious, as in demands that the club couldn’t meet , she may well have really come out swinging,,,,and we were intractable given our fully loaded tpp which is another story , that’s where we fkd up

Buy hey, at least we still have GrEg and Hosking on whatever they are on:rolleyes: - I know who I'd have been backing in and what I would have been doing. That said, I do believe we were probably in an untenable position and this was going to happen anyway with Sheerin and I say well played Eilish, who will probably leave the game a premiership player, maybe even a multi!.

I'm not overly worried about the on field environment, we've got good line coaches, some good leaders that drive standards, and re development we were able to develop Beth Lynch where North hadn't. We have one of the best cultures amongst the clubs that haven't reached the heights of the top 4 -6 teams.

It's the other off field stuff that's letting us down in recruiting, list management and also off field leadership. If we can improve here and get to become a finals winning team, then we will become more appealing as a destination club which with Women's sport is even more of a drawcard for player movement than in the mens.

You can have a winning mentality and not be successful. With this culture you create stability and continuity, it's when you get all areas of your organization to the level to be able to deliver on the shared values and goals, then you get cohesion, investment and unity. What is the saying "United will never be defeated". North have this now, it might have been the hardest pre-season that they had ever done but in a way when you have what they have at the moment it's also probably the easiest.

The silence could simply be they are all disappointed in Sheerin as they thought they were all in this together. As much as I like Sheerin, the bottom line is she has walked out on the club and her team mates, nothing more nothing less. Us supporters do seem to have double standards at times, remember the angst we gave poor old CCJ when he went to North. This is exactly the same.

On that short interview with Sheahan:

"Montana Bureldsen comes from an athletic background, so her footy is ahh combative, competitive and aggressive....."
Maybe it is, but it's unlikely because she has an athletics background that she is combative......

..."yeah Imi was a much loved character in our group {shrugs} unfortunately we were left with 33 players on our list at the end of the season, and we had to move on some players to open some spots, ahh, Imi's a super athletic young player and I know she'll give a lot to the Sydney Swans and was certainly an important player in our group for Season 2024."
Over shot this that is for sure. Why unfortunately?

"Yeah, Eilish requested a trade in recent times, and due to some changing circumstances personally. We're better for Eilish....etc etc.... We are bitterly disappointed Eilish won't be moving forward with us, and these decisions were not made lightly, but, umm, at the end of the day she's got to North Melbourne, umm {as she looks up left} we wish her all the best."
Some massive arse covering her, but it is now what it is.

And do you have an update on Emelia Yassir:
"yeah, I mean this is a great situation, we ahh, didn't arrange or agree to trade with Essendon yesterday, and we've worked really, really hard to chat with Millsie about what her future looks like at Richmond, and there's a lot of love for Millsie in our football group and at Richmond and in the end the ahh, relationships built, ahh the love and care the footy club has always shown Millsie is um a big part of the reason she is going to remain a Tiger."
It's not a great situation. The salvation was a relief.

I know it's media, and a significant squirt of mayo has to go on each convo point, but her convo structure is not great.

If her personality is half as strong as her imposing physical presence she may have left a few carcasses by the roadside on the way out , pure speculation on my part but some way of explaining the abrupt exit and deafening silence to follow

The problem is a lot of the conjecture is based on the so called deafening silence. For every thing that is published in public forums there is probably 100 discussions on internal what’s app groups etc. I didn’t notice any animosity during the season and Sheerin certainly played in a positive manner so I have no reason to think the wheels fell off.
