AFLW Trade, Draft and list changes 2024

True prob dented cj chances , for a decent kick she was a terrible kick for goal

CJ's one wood was that she was quite crafty and hit the scoreboard but defensively not great. Enter Hosking and then Ford and suddenly with Yassir we had elite pressure and the bonus was Hosking and Ford were also hitting the scoreboard. That spelt problems for CJ to force herself back in. Chasing Paige Scott was like a final nail.

Even Cheryl not happy! You know what to do Cheryl 👊

Wow they bent us over on that one , looks like they are clearing the decks but the first one out should have been the coach

This latest with Paige Scott and Yassir staying adds some intrigue to what we do with our picks at the draft in 4 days time.

With Courtney Jones delisting we now have 3 x picks and we won't use 10 or 18 on Paige Scott, earmarking pick 31 for her which leave us with 2 x first rounders, 1 a top 10 pick.

I believe we need to target a midfielder with our top 10 with Sheerin's departure and also losing her from defence in 2024 highlighted that a rebounding defender would be high on the priorities.

Then there's the forwards, it would be nice to have another high pick in this draft but it looks like we've committed to take Paige Scott there.

KB is turning 33 next year and front of mind Sheerin's age at 34, it does drive home that a KB replacement must be on the near horizon, if not this year but next. Q Do we target a rebounding defender or a tall forward with pick 18?

One of the things I will miss with Sheerin is that she was never shy in flying the flag when it needed to be flown.
Laura Mc does it.
Hosking does it.
Yassir will stand up for herself.
Very few others.

Paige Scott despite only being 20 can handle herself.

So much of the talent are midfielders or have played there predominantly.
Dempsey takes alotve marks but she plays on the flanks…someone breaking lines running through the game really gets the ball to one on ones in goal scoring range.
We lacked that this season.
If an ave kick is 35mtr and players can run a 100 in 13 sec.
Support for a defender isn’t more than 2-3 sec away or that’s how quickly they can setup when it’s a free kick.
Bacon has the wheels and the strength maybe, but she’s a poor kick.

Too bloody right.

We would have given Yassir and 10 for Scott and 8 under the proposed deal but we wanted a first round pick on top of this.

Now we keep Yassir and get Scott free (sorry couldn't help myself), well for pick 31 we'll select her.

It's gone from losing Yassir and getting Scott to keeping her and getting Scott for 2nd rounder, presuming that no other club jumps in and takes her but she wants to get here. I think she's got a friendship with Hosking?

looking at it now toenail63, it's about the best outcome that could've happened
the deal proposed wasn't that good and Essendon basically weren't going to budge even it meant losing Scott for nothing, which they did

2 spot increase (10-8) for Yassir and Scott is bad, 31 is much more acceptable for Scott
next year if Yassir still wants to go, a 1st Rd pick on its own is better value

I gotta be honest this ordinary form from both clubs , we’re not talking nat fyfe dusty Martin here , just get the flipping deal done , really poor reflection both clubs

Sounds like the backflips from Yassir and Scott maybe due to the real culprit for the deal not going through being exposed. Dudoro legacy lives on at the Druggies

Disappointed for her. A player caught between AFLW and VFLW but put in 100% always with a smile.
It's not through lack of trying is it with Stella, has talent but not been able to display to the level needed at AFLW and then time becomes your enemy. It get's to the point where others appeal more. I wish her all the best, who knows she may get a contract somewhere else & keep living the dream.

My thoughts exactly we will be in a much better bargaining position, discussions getting underway earlier for them to make arrangements/trades to satisfy what we want for her.

The video just returns a black screen for me, I'm not sure why.

On Montana Beruldsun - We can’t wait to see her pressure and speed that she will add to our list, also competitive.

She farewelled the delisted players and Brown and said that they will always be valued as tigers, usual spiel.

She said that Eilish Sheerin came to us and requested the trade to North due to her changing personal circumstances. She said that we were bitterly disappointed on this decision and also disappointed that Eilish wouldn’t be moving forward with us in the future. She also thanked her for what she had brought to the club over the past 3 years.

On Yassir she said they had worked hard to show Emelia what her future was going to be here at the club, on being valued/loved and that we weren't going to agree to the terms that the Bombers wanted for this trade, implying that we wouldn’t be swayed by Yassir's desire to get there and stood our ground while holding out for more, until this wasn't going to be possible. Said that now that Emelia is resigning the outcome is a great one for us. Wasn't asked for comment on Paige Scott and didn't mention this.

On the draft gave nothing other then we would take best available talent and look forward to adding more young talent similar to last years draft pair of Bacon and Ford.

Not so sure about all that , for mine with sheerins CV 3 x r up, 2 x AA she demanded to be paid accordingly or I’m out
She’s out !
Millzy likely won’t end up at ess , there’s 18 teams in the comp
Take your pic
I would be amazed if North have the room in their salary cap to pay Sheerin what she is worth either. They are chock full of stars already. It is up to Millzy now what she does but she obviously wanted to get to Essendon very badly.

Honestly was concerned about our culture for a couple of days, but Yassir being set to stay puts me at ease. We’ll miss Sheerin though
It’s a shame the usual suspects carry on like lunatics without knowing all the facts. I am sure they will retract those false statements however 😉

I hope we are aiming higher than Bacon & Ford with our 2 1st round picks. Nothing against these girls but would be disappointed if we drafted players that still need lots of work to make it at the AFLW level.

Questions need to be asked.
Fact is we’ve had three players make AA team Conti,Brennan,Sheerin
Sheerin has made at least the ext squad very year she’s played.
We’ve had one player nominated as a Rising star in 6 seasons. That’s Yassir and that’s shithouse.
We lose both Sheerin and Yassir.
I think she will walk.

I think Sheerin is “a winner” who is ruthless and wants to achieve her best/a flag things like that and as much as I’m disappointed I can get it.
Yassir if the club can’t keep her that is an indictment on the F/D, Coach and Captain in my view.
They haven’t sold the dream and obviously players don’t believe, we’re going backwards.
Sheerin mentality and what she projects is exactly what we need, not cross code players who have been in a high preformance enviroment or a Captain who is a polished media preformer.

This line of “we are people before we are players” that Brennan has trotted out last couple of seasons or the way Gabby’s interview at the end of the Port final loss, saying that the loss “like Ferg said this isn’t the end of our journey it’s the start of it” is just fluff and bullsh.t.

I think Yassir is at top 8 player, fact is she is a footballer and goal scorer, others might disagree but she does t think our program is more attractive than what she imagines things will be like at Essendon.
Also, Paige Scott gets droped for the Rnd 9 game against us doesn’t play in the last three games but is prepared to go back to Essendon for a new contract rather than come to us.

Something needs to change.
Intriguing post.

The loss of Sheerin on field is huge. So huge I do think it derails us for a season at least, and unless there are broad changes off field, I doubt we make finals again in a hurry. This ties in with your observation and comment about a dearth of Rising Star noms. We are simply not growing our own well enough! With Jones and Reid gone, we get that chance - again!

Sheerin is / was a cross coder who came to AFLW late. Lavey too. You could even call Conti a cross-coder. Not sure these are a problem.

I would be very interested to know from the Club Psych, Lara, (I think) whether she had a inkling of Sheerin's impending departure and when? At the end of the day, Sheerin has read the tea leaves better than any of us, and being closer to the end of her elite sports career, the decision to get to North is probably an astute one for her. Won't be the last.

I'm please Yassir re-signed for an other year. Did think she would.

The Richmond Cultural demands don't always work, and criticising that and holding Brennan to account is pointless. We loved it in 2017 with men's team. AFLW women are trying to find there own, and it takes a strong and sensitive Captain like Cotchin - is that Brennan too - I think she is our best at it so far. You and I don't have to like the 'fluff' - but they do!
